Yes, I've fed quite abit of the naturals chix and rice. Good feed! I personally hate 40# bags, in fact they piss me off, so I dont feed it anymore, but it is a good feed.

Yes

I feed my senior citizen Plott male Diamond Lamb & Rice because he developed an allergy (ear problems) to the corn in other dogfood. He does very well on it. It's a little pricey, but affordable for just one dog.

Yes I feed the extreme athlete and barely give my lab 2 cups per day. My blue gyp gets about 3cups perday and the best part is the easy cleanup

not one bit ...I mainly got it instead of the natural, as it has what my old dog needs as far as glucosamine..what do you consider the pros and cons of natural vs. the performance

We were trying to buy Diamond Naturals around here and most of the small feed stores were being supplied by the same guy, who was selling stale and discontinued feed to all of them. Now we buy from Coastal Farm Supply which is big enough to have a high turnover, so it's always fresh. We use the standard Diamond Naturals beef & rice or lamb & rice (No By-Products, No Corn, No Wheat 25/15) during the summer and their Extreme Athlete (No By-Products, No Corn, No Wheat 32/25) for Fall and Winter. We basically feed 4 cups per day and we have to watch carefully in the summer or the dogs start laying on fat. We did some calculations and came up with Diamond as being usually the best value in calories/protein per dollar. You can feed cheaper stuff, but end up spending more cause you feed more (and scoop more droppings). We settled on Diamond a couple years ago and haven't found anything better yet.

BTW, we just go by contents and analysis. We ignore labels like "Puppy" or "Large Dog". And as far as the 40 pound bags, they all get dumped into the storage bin anyway soon as they are unloaded.

Went back and looked at the Diamond web page and noticed that the regular Diamond in the maroon and green bag is 24/20 and contains corn and wheat. Diamond Naturals is their line to stick to, IMHO. Take a look for yourself here.

food

it was between the natural lamb and rice, and the performance..I got the performance for the 30/20 and glucosamine it has...we had been feeding lamb and rice, thought I would try the performance, I have had my dogs on it for about a week, seems to be fine, but its a little early to tell...if this isnt what I am looking for, I will go back to the lamb and rice...Btw, I love the quote John...dang good movie...that was probably my favorite scene of the movie, lol...

That quote and scene is one of my favorites also. Came from one of the 5 or 6 best books I ever read.

Matt the all Naturals extreme athlete has the chondriton/glucsamine in it as well. I like the cleanup and amout I have to feed over any other food i've fed so far. I don't like the cost but it does even out since I don't have to feed very much.

I was getting it from TSC but they kind of dropped the ball so I asked one of the local feedstores if the could order it. 3 days later I had my feed. I've found that most smaller stores will order it for you with their normal orders esp if they know you'll come back.

hey,

the Extreme Athlete and the chicken and rice look the best out of the naturals...after I feed these 3 bags, I will try the chicken and rice...whatever I get has to be easily digestible...

I tried the Extreme Athlete for a while ... it's like $32 a bag , you can't tell the difference in it and any of the others.

Diamond and others use chicken alot because it makes the numbers look good ... but dogs just plain eat better and do better on the beef based foods even if the numbers aren't as good .

I've never seen a Diamond flavor that had the dark color and grease to the kernels like ProPlan , Canidae and such ....

I've never seen dogs get those ripped flanks with the muscles showing and get legged up on straight Diamond.

Canidae is about the same price as the Extreme Athlete and I'd say it a good bit better.

If a guy has several hounds and money is an issue ... you can't beat using the normal Diamond and mixing about 1/3 to 1/4 ProPlan into it .

What nutritional value does a "dark" color hold over a "lighter" colored kernel of feed? Of your primary protein sources, beef, chicken, and lamb....which is the most difficult for them to digest? Again, of the three primary protein sources of conventional dry feed, which of the three is the highest quality protein? Scroll down and take a look at the gyp posted by nimmer17. Straight Diamond EA and in better shape than most. The EA has cleaner burning fuel than other Diamond formulas, not to mention more of it, and a higher quality, cleaner protein. Also it contains less carbs which means your dogs carry less water. The concern for water is that once their muscles heat up, excess water keeps them from cooling efficiently. Sounds crazy I know but its analogous to a human jogging wrapped in a wet blanket on a hot day. Stay in that blanket and it will take forever to cool. Strip the blanket and your body cools faster. Carb loading (corn, rice, etc) in a feed does the same thing in dogs. Once they get wet from the creeks, ponds, dew, etc. they play hell trying to recover. They'll keep going because thats what they were bred to do but the going ain't as easy. Anyway....
