his 2nd state title in 3 years took 2nd last year at the minnesota jaycee tournament, he has quailifed 6 straight years took 3rd one year 2nd 3 years and 1st two years. now next year he gets to step up and wrestling varsity/ junior varsity. i think he will wrestle enough varsity mathces to letter as a 7th grader at 103 lbs he weighs 91 pounds now.

also he ended his grade school with a record of about give or take 5-10 at 150 wins and 43 losses 1st - 6th grade

on the mat wade, i coach youth wrestling our state turnament is this comming saturday i have 8 kids qualified i have 2 going for there triple crown wich is a state champion in folk style, free style, and greco one of the kids is a 6 grader and hes working on his 4 strait triple crown.....

josh i can't believe we have 2 things in common, redbones and i also coach youth wrestling, freestyle and greco start on tuesday for us. he has also quailfied for mn usa wrestling tourny's along with nywa folkstyle state tournys, also mn usa freestyle state tourny's and never took him to them. i'm really looking forward the next 6 years.


tell your young wrestlers good luck, triple crown wins a hard to get, i didn't want to over do my son maybe in the next couple years i will give him the shot at a triple crown.

Nice i loved the slam! Im hopin my boys 4 and 5 right now will want to do it. i did it went i was young. How early can i start em? I think my 5 year old could do it now. He may be better suited for football though he just turned 5 and already weighs 68 pounds and bout 4 feet tall. Hes gonna be a big un. OU's future star defence i guarentee it!!!!if i have anything to do with it anyways..

he has a bright future in wrestling.keep up the hard work,and the sky is the limit for him!!my son is in 2nd grade and is 107-35 in 3 seasons.it takes up alot of time,and money,but is worth every penny.hardly ever see a lazy wrestler,and if you do he's counting the lights in the gym!!!cole tells me 2nd place is the 1st loser.i think he watches to many wrestling movies...good luck brandon!!!!!

over the years seen some parents burn the kids out, let them choose how much they want to wrestle, stay calm, keep your cool while coaching and always show sportsmanship(even on bad calls) that way they will show the same. and i'm not sure about other states but at a young age around here kids love the head lock, teach a defense( i teach a bear hug) or better yet get them to shoot good shots (leg attacks) one of my biggest heartbreaks came this year when my kindergarden daughter stold me she didn't want to wrestle, she qualified for state last year as pre schooler and the year before at just over 4 years old wreslting pre-k /k, this was going to be her year she is tuff. instead of trying or talking her into staying i told her it's ok and hope she comes next year and says dad i want to wrestle again.

cole won atleast 25 matches his first year with headlocks,and hasn't thrown one since.the burning out thing hit home this year.last year 54-12,this year 24-2.made it to area championship,and said he was burned out!i said ok.he has 10 years of wrestling to go,i'm not going to ruin him at 8 years old.i preach him to change levels,and get wrist control.again,good luck to your son.he may be the next zac sanders...mike

Good sport to learn perseverance especially if the parents aren't doing too much pushing. Really awesome sport... always loved watching in highschool.

i had posted earlier on here about my nephew that is in the 10th grade and how well he was doing he finished a state qulifier and had a record of 34-9

he also started out in prek and went on to wrestle 50 matches a year upand he loved it the more the better in third grade he wrestled at regionals and last his first match of his life he had 200 wins and got that loss i thought oh boy whats goona happen now he goes out and wrestles back to earn third place.he then moved to kansas where he won and lost a few more matches then they moved again
when hebecame a freshman i moved his family back up here cause i knew he was something special then he plays baskettball for a while his freshman year but i didnt push and well this year was good for him and he has a goal for next year

nothing has changed other than i am not his main coach any more before his matches we go over 5 things and he will tell you they are what made him the wrestler he is
1.motion (when your moving you make a much harder person to set up a move on
2. control ( you must control the match when you control the match it takes less out of you and more out of your opp.)
3.finish( finish every move you attemp,going to the wistle )
4. wrestle smart
5. have fun (win or lose)
i tell any kid that i talk to or help out these 5 things cause i feel that if you do all 5 you will sucseed on the mat

I Tell my guys the same thing but a little different.

1) stance most important thing of all

2) motion

3) agresive or (go hard) i like to say. i tell them this because most matches are won by the more agressive kid.

4) Finish

5) have fun be a good sport.
we had a coaches meeting at our reginal event and the head reff accualy yelled at me and said my kids wrestle like collage kids
they are to ruff. can you believe that to ruff. my kids are not to ruff
they are agresive and prepared for the match at hand...

finish as i tell them i have had it happen to me when i wrestled not finishing it cost me a confren. title my jr year

if my nephew was on here he would tell you that i yell the same things every match motion control wrestle smart
if a wrestler is wrestling smart he is combining everything that i have tought him
well i havent coached youth in a couple of years but i was told when my nephew and this group of kids was young them kids wrestle to hard i always corected those people by saying no the dont wrestle to hard they finish


wade congrats to you and your boy and hopefully in his future is a few state titles
