I recently switched from Black Gold because of the price as well. I have started feeding Sportmix premium 26/18 and it seems to be a pretty comparable feed. A little less stool and they dont drink as much water on. Havent got to hunt a whole lot because of the weather so I'm not sure how they will hold up on it though. I'm happy with it so far.

We feed Black Gold $23.00 for 50 lb bag, and are very happy with it, will continue to feed it. Use to feed Purina Hi-Pro, even tried Sport Mix, didn't like the Sport Mix due to dogs passed some nasty smelling gas all the time when on it.
So for the quality of it, we are staying with Black Gold.

i

I fed blackgold to but the price didnt really bother cause it was so good of food. lil stool, dogs seemed to like it, and i could tell a diff in there performance when switching from purina. One thing is that the person that sales the black gold lives in a diff county than me so was just aggravating going over there. So i got a bag of the southern state food to try it, just cause its close to home. But if this food dont hold up then going back to black gold and staying with it.. and its 20 a bag here.

I tried different feeds( Diamond, Purina, etc.) Now I am back with Black Gold and will stay with them. No other feed keeps my dogs as well and their stool is less. I also think it is a plus buying from someone that supports our sport.

You want cheaper, not better.
You probably are paying as little as you will find for that quality.

I've fed Black Gold for years and really like it but seems latley that it dont do as well as it use too. Wondering if any body else has noticed a change since they moved from Missouri to Mississippi I think. A local farm supply sells Joy dog feed and its a little cheaper (Black Gold $23.50, Joy $20.00) thinking about trying it for a round...

If you are going to change food just be sure to check the ingredients list, remember the first 3 ingredients are the most important. If one of them is ground corn then I would stay away from it.

You want something better , but you don't want to pay more for it ..... the funny part about that is folks seriously don't think that's a dumb concept in the world we live in .

I drive a Firebird , but would like to by a Vette ..... for the price of a Hyunda ,lol .... good luck.

I agree most of the time you get what you pay for......but this day and time most folks such as manufactures, buyers, etc tend to be more concerned with the dollar than the quality....just an example science diet is atleast twice as high as black gold and defenitly not any better.... so you wouldnt be getting more for your money here......just my opinion.......

I like Southern States' new line of dog food. We are feeding our dogs the "Advanced Sport" food, which is 24/20 and 18.49 for a 40lb bag. But they have other types with different protein/fat levels, like the "Advanced Active" food is 26/18 I believe and it is the same price as the Sport. Plus, they also have the different "Complete" foods that are a couple dollars cheaper than the Advanced bags. I looked at it today, the "Complete Sport" food is 24/20 and 14.99 for a 40lb bag.

They have all the information but the prices on their website.

Where are you finding it? Purina told me over the phone that that had quit making the larger bags.
