Get them to add 2 weeks to coon season too and year around training on all WMA's then call it a deal.

Ours goes to jan 15 already. I do think they should up the limit to about 20.

email sent

Mr. Scott,

I would like to start by thanking your for standing up for sportsman in Ga.
However the Bill HB402 I'm afraid will be extremely harmful to the small
game hunters in North Ga. We as small game hunters are already having a very
tough time trying to co exist with Deer and Turkey hunters as it is. We try
to share the available hunting land, but the majority of your deer and
turkey hunters feel that hunting raccoons at night run the deer of the
property. I know this to be incorrect, and there is a study done by South
Carolina DNR and Clemson University that supports my claim. With that being
said if the deer season is extended without extending the small game season
you are taking 15 days from your raccoon, rabbit, squirrel and bird hunters.
We pay just as much for our chance to hunt as the big game hunters and
should get the same treatment as they do. I am sure that we can come to an
understanding on how to help ALL hunters together and make this amicable for
all. Please contact me at your earliest convenience and I will be happy to
discuss with you the feelings of the membership of our organization.

I hope everyone in the Walker and Dade co area will call this man and let him know there are small game hunters outhere also and we want our fair shake. This bill is still in commitee so we still have a chance.

The district that Martin Scott represents is full of coon hunters. I live in Walker county and will spread the word to all the small game hunters I know.

Small game hunters together make up a bigger population compared to deer hunters alone. The only way that this would pass is if the word doesn't get out to all the small game hunters out there. SO, SPREAD THE WORD!

apathetic?

it could be that most of us small game hunters hunut those deer too. Granted, i don't want the season extended, but i bet you won't get a lot of noise made anywhere in this state over coonhunting, when its up against deer and maybe turkeys. I worry moore about the clause of allowing "locals" to decide on seasons etc... To me that means your local officals, and most of them have never hunted anything. We need one season, for the whole state, made up by the professiionals we have hired at the state level, and not a season made up by Bob Lane and his committee, as he sees fit. best thing that we can do as hunters in general is to get our reps. to can Lane as chair of that committee. Just my opinion, but if you look at anything controversal in the state hunting world, he is behind it 100%, or he is against some very good legislation, like right to retrieve, and we keep him as chair of a powerful law making committee on hunting in this state. with his removal is where it needs to start guys. personally, i do not know, nor can i vote for him, but all you have to do is read the votes, and you can make your mind up for yourself if he is good or bad for Georgia.

.........this goes well beyond coonhunting, Mr. Johnson............it will also affect the time grouse, woodcock, quail, DUCK, goose, and squirrel hunters have in the woods....I hunt ALL of the above................Lord knows, NOBODY loves to deer hunt any more than I do......................but it is selfish to keep folks that hunt other species away from their sport for 2 more weeks.........my God, someone can't kill enough deer to fill the freezer in 16 weeks of deer season now..........take up golf.........lololol

i wasn't insinuating that we just sit still. i was merely saying i think it will be hard to fire up most hunting folks, because, like you and i, they deer hunt too. as far as i can tell, it will not effect our south georgia seasons, but it will only be a matter of time before it does. i am with you, and wish all would get with me and demand that mr.lane be removed from the wildlife chair. no good will ever come from him being there, unless the federations continue to keep a very watchful eye over him. the snake is in atlanta, not the grass.

Meeting today

OK guys A BIG THANKS goes to Kevin Phillips of the SOUTHWEST part of the state. When I was told that we needed to have a person to speak up for the small game hunters at the sub comitee meeting that was going on today at the capital. I called Jake and we looked at trying to make it. Unfortunatly Jake was on his way home from the doctors and was in no shape to go. I couldn't get out of work( to many projects going on) I contacted Kevin and asked(less than 24hr notice) could he please go and speak for the federation and small game hunters. He said yes and reworked his schedule to go. The fight is not over but was told that Kevin did a great job along with a wildlife biologist and a Dr. from UGA. They were able to convince the members of the comitee to table the bill and look into making the much needed changes to help all hunters as one.

Guys this was a group effort, the phone calls, emails and the meeting all played a part. Not to mention alot of behind the scenes work from some friends in other organizations.

Extension

Ga. Dawg, If you are waiting for the Fed. to do somthing I would'nt wait to long. Seems like all they are interested in is 25 dollars. Theres all kinds of laws that needs us Coonhunters attention. That is where i think they are very lax.

Barry - I am not sure how you can say this. We sent a BOARD MEMBER to the meeting who took the floor and spoke and along with the others was able to get this tabled. The Ga Federation was instrumental in getting this motion tabled for the North Ga Hunters.

Kevin did not get paid one dime to do this - he went as a representative of the Ga Federation because we are trying to help. Are you aware we are also working with the Ga Hunting and Fishing Federation on other legislative issues as well?

As I said on another post - it is easy for people to sit behind a computer and complain about what we are NOT doing. But it is something else to step up and actually get involved. At the present time there are only a handful of us doing ALL the work. If we could get everyone off their computers and get them to put half as much effort into helping as the do into getting on their computer and tearing us down - Man we could be STRONG!!

Before getting on here and attacking us why not join us and together we will ALL fight for the North Ga Hunters. There is strength in numbers Friend - I think the saying goes UNITED WE STAND - DIVIDED WE FALL.

I am sure you feel good when you get on here and vent - Lord knows I have done it too - but wouldn't it be a better feeling to join the group and fight the fight together THEN get on here and tell the world what we accomplished together?

Also - I have a copy of the minutes from the last meeting that addresses the issue you raised to me by email. I will have them at the meeting so you can see that even prior to your mentioning it we have already been working on it.

Hope to see you Saturday at 2 PM.

You are ABSOLUTELY right Ga Dawg! I am in charge of the website and I will see to it that it is updated and that this info is a more available. Thanks for the suggestion.

Any info you have that is pertinent please send to me by email and I will take care of it next week along with updates from the hunt this weekend.

Sorry To step On Anybodies Toes!!

I surely didn't want to make anyone mad. My bad, I along with other members of our club will be there. The focus just seems, not on Ga. coonhunters rights as a whole, but just for a few hunters.

I don't know to whom you are referring but you have not made me mad. And we welcome you and your fellow hunters so that we can all join forces and make things better for everyone. To my knowledge we have not been doing anything for any "select few." And welcome to opportunity for us all to work together for ALL Ga hunters.

See you this weekend. Please drive careful.
