the tracks have been old right after dark...........so hot and humid the coons are comin' out around 4-5pm for a drink...............best time to hunt where I am is about 3 in the mornin' till light.

the advantage of sweet corn fields or anything else like that here.It's just the old hunt hard,grub em out and get em up a tree.Right now Robbie Turk down in Brady seems to have the most dog power of any I have hunted with.Went with him last night and we hunted one of mine and three of his.I got first strike on the first turn out at about 9:30 pm.Bad track with not much trailing and after about 15 minutes his ole Midnight Sue came treed.Finally his young male backed her a little,we waited and waited and waited but nothing else would tree with her.Went in and she had two half grown coon up and after we were there 10 minutes here comes my gyp,don't know where she had been or why she wasn't there to start with but she wasn't.Second drop I had another first strike and her and Sue worked a fairly good track on down the river.Got so far from us the echos were giving us fits but it sounded like her and Sue were treed so we drove closer.Sue was treed solid,the two males were on down the river and again not a sound anywhere from mine.Walked in to Sue and she had two more half grown coon up.My gyp came in after we got there but the two males went on a site seeing tour.Finally got them corraled about an hour later and my gyp looked like she didn't know what coonhunting was all about,the two males looked worse but ole Sue proved once again like she has so many times that she was a coon hound in any type conditions.When the going gets tough she just gets tougher.

Naw I'm treeing a couple just about every night I go,but I haven't been having hardly any track at all just a couple of barks on the ground and then treed. I am just wondering if everyone else is having the same kind of conditions we are having.
Have any of ya waited until later in the night to turn loose?If so did you have better tracks?I agree with coon dawg I think with the heat and humidity they aren't coming down untill well into the morning.But I can't wait that late to turn em loose.

Dang Hobo and here I was thinking you were a coonhunter!!

Been about the same here hot at night. Rained a little off and on so far today so may get to run'em. Been going about 10:00 and try to be in by 1:00. Skeeters are rough this year.

The coons are soooo bad in the corn fields right now, the're the hot spot to hunt OR trap! We've caught 5 last week and this week! 4 sows and 1 boar. Turned the sows lose on feeders.

Do you believe that one of the sows was FULL of babies. She was really calm, you could feel them moving. But, she wasn't making milk yet. I though most coons should have already had their kittens by now.

The best time to hunt here, is from about 1:00am on. Also, I'm about like Coon dawg, I also think that they are moving before dark sometimes too, because Hank and Molly have hit some pretty cold tracks these past 2 weeks. Molly can't do much with a really cold track, but Hank is OK at them and lay ups.

went last night cut my blu dog lose 20 seconds he was struck, opned few times located an hushed.well hes dont this before an has come out i been thinkin hes been bumpin possems.me an my huntin buddie were bsin about old dogs an past hunts lol. an i was lookin for him to come out well he dident.thinkin he had pulled out we got the tracker out an tracked him showed him close. i called him dident come im thinkin well hes fraid of a butt whoopin an is hiddin.well tracker seems to be gettin interfreance from the collars on the dogs in the box. we walked round bheing the truck shut the empty side the dog box an sat on the tail gate fumbled with the box tryin to tune it in. so i walked down the road aways showed the dog back towards the truck. i cut my light on no dog in the road by the truck.so i start back to the truck. then i notice somthing strange.somting dark in the dog box on his side. i guess we had shut the door when we sat on the tail gate lol cause he was in the box door shut sleepin lmao.i got him out by the collar buddy says i bet he was on the wrong end of that track i had him by the collar so i took him on opisite side the road let him go he wouldent leave my feet. so i petted him its ok man get ahead still nothing.acted scared, so i reached down an snapped the dog leash on him made 3 steps an cut him lose he left red hott ran 30 minutes or so treed an had a coon.turns out the possems i think he been bumpin was backtracks. an when he would try to go the other way when he realized it he would run into me an i would tear his tail up an send him back.an he would tree but not the coon he started on lol. so the sign hes been wearin that says.IM STUPID.well its round my neck now lmao.so next time somone sees me in the woods an ask if i turned my dogs out yet lmao probbaly gonna say OH IM SORRY I DIDENT SEE YOUR SIGN.lol just glad i had a trackin system would could have hunted that dog all night without it lmao

Hobo,

I'm down in Radford and we have been treeing a few. Its been really humid. They haven't been long chases at all, maybe 100 to 200 yards. I haven't hunted early in the morning yet, but I am thinking about trying it. I guess I'll go to bed at 7pm one night and get up at 2am and give it a whirl. lol. I think many of the tracks we are working that seem kind of sluggish are from coons that have started stirring a little early, we have been turning loose around 9:30 to 10 and hunting to about 12:30.

But we have been treeing a few. Last night was two reds and two black dogs. Two hours. Five trees. Four coons. Four split trees.

Cut a pup loose on a corn patch two nights ago. Walked in 50yds and saw three sitting up. Man I love those 80 acre feeder buckets.

Seem to be moving good real early or real late Hobo.

Dang papa all these years and I never believed mama when she said those things about ya. Reckon maybe that the handler has been the problem with more of them dogs?? LOL

Red Cedar you don't care to take a guy hunting do ya? 5 trees in two hours WOW !!!!! Heck I'm lucky to make two trees in two hours usually.

Christy I believe ya about the sow coon.My dad caught a sow a few years back in late June or early July and she wasn't,hadn't nursed any kittens yet so he kept her for awhile.He went to feed her one morning in early August and heard something crying he got to looking and founf her with 4 kittens.I guess that just goes to show that not all sow's get bred as early as most people think.

its been hot and dry here at night but seems that right before dark or anything after 11 seem to be out, just like the light switch was turned on, every drop after 11 is about a 2 min wait a strike and less than 10 min treeing hot, wont go home till i have treed 2 for the night....treed 7 the other night....

I have been treeing a few just after dark. They seem to be around creeks that have blackberries on the banks or a sweetcorn patch nearby. The corn patches away from creeks aren't getting touched at all.

Most tracks are just a minute or so long.

I finally had a good chase last night!!! The dogs struck in one cornfield and ran it into the next one and treed down by the river.Second track was a cold feeder track that took about 45 mins to get treed they treed this one next two the river also and I saw it walking in.

is having some luck. Our coon just ain't running or they have all died off. Tis awful, haven't had a good run, treed one or even seen a coon in 3 wks. No tracks to be found neither. Something strange is going on here. Even the guys with nitech & grnitech dogs aren't running anything. So what's up with that?

It has been tough here in North east/ East Central Indiana. Tracks have been poor. Coon have been scarce. We usually hit a dry spell this time of year that we blame on the dry weather, we don't have that excuse this year it is wet. It has been really really frustrating. Last couple of nights have been better though. Maybe that is a good sign

For this time of the year we've been having a great season so far. Seems like the coon are staying in the berry patches more than the corn fields but thats soon to change.
All my early coons are pop-ups but after about 11pm they are getting on the feed trails and running more track.
Water is everywhere so the ussual summer drops on the bigger creeks really aren't any better than anywhere else.

I have been having a mixed bag of drops. Some are long long cold tracks and other are hot and quick. I don't know if it is the tracking conditions, the coon , or my young dog as I haven't turned her loose with another dog in over a month.

We did manage to tree 3 Monday night, but only treed one last night. I had to round her up out of her second bean field because I had my sons with me and it was getting too late to have them out.

Yeah. We tried to keep her in an old brood box that we have out beside the creek. But, she wouldn't eat. We kept her 2 days and got worried she might lose her kittens. So, we put out a bucket behind my mom and dad's house and put her up the bucket tree. Checked the next day and there was quite a bit of feed gone, and coon tracks. I sure hope it was her, and she has her kittens OK.

It is awful dry here. They have a burn ban on and ponds are drying up. But in spite of that I have been having pretty good hunts. Just lucky I guess.

earlier in the year my young dogs were struggling some, but they seem to be getting things figured out.

I treed one last night.In case some of you dont know,I work second shift,so I do most of my hunting between midnight and daylight.I turned loose last night at 1:00 am.
Got struck in about 10 mins.Took about an hour to get it treed.
Rough track.

MOST OF OUR CORN HAS COME AND GONE. IT DOES SEEN LIKE EVERY TRACK MY DOG HITS IT IS A SHORT FEW BAWL AND TREED. THATS OK WITH ME LESS WALKING AND THOSE SNAKES ARE REALLY THICK RIGHT NOW.IM HUNTING HIM BY HIMSELF AND THANK THE GOOD LORD HE IS DOING IT BY HIMSELF. THE GRAPES AND OTHER LATE BEARING STUFF ARE GETTING RIPE AND WE ARE TREEING OUT ON THE HILL SIDE MORE. HE IS REALLY TURNING IT ON AT THE TREE. ICAN JUST SIT AND LISTEN TO HIM. WHAT A SOUND. IT TOOK HIM A WHILE BUT HE IS PROVING THAT BLOOD DOES COUNT.

I got up at 3:15 this morning to give early morning hunting a try.Its suppose to be cooler and less humid early in the morning RIGHT ?? Well it sure wasn't here this morning I woke up to 79 degree weather and the humidity was around 75%.As I was driving to the farm it started to rain a little.I went ahead and cut the dogs loose by now it was 4:15.Took them about 25 mins to strike a cold track.Between rain showers I would get out of the truck to listen for the dogs.They trailed from one cornfield to another one then from that cornfield they trailed into the woods.They finally treed just at daylight.Was kinda funny going into the tree with no light.LOL Dummy me forgot to grap the camera as I left the truck so I didn't get any pic's.Oh yeah they had treed on a big den tree.

went out last night at dark 30 and treed 2 coon my young hounds hit a old hard track but they got it up and movin pretty good ran it for about a mile and treed took almost 2hours to get to them when we got their they had 2coons in the tree not half bad for black and tans my female jusy turned 2 my male is 18months their young and do make mistakes but they do get a coon treed on occasion
