Sport Mix or Diamond

I know these dog food threads get beat to death, but the only two dog foods that people even talk about around here are sportmix and Diamond. I am feeding diamond right now, but given these two brands, which would be the better to feed.

Thanks

I always fed Black gold until my last dog died three years ago. Now I have some new dogs, but can't get black gold anymore. I have no complaints on the diamond. Sport Mix is cheaper, but there may be a reson for that.

I feed both Diamond & Sportmix

My Senior Citizen Plott male gets Diamond Lamb & Rice because corn gives him ear problems. My new Plott pup (D.O.B. August 2008) has been eating Diamond Lamb & Rice also. But I've noticed that lately it's been running through him, as Diamond has with some of my other hounds, so as of today I'm gradually adding Sportmix to his food & within a week or so he'll be fed Sportmix entirely. I use the Sportmix Adult high energy and my dogs are doing well on it. I fed Purina exclusively for more than 20 years - but it has a high corn content & Purina doesn't deliver to my feed store anymore because they prefer to deliver to Wal Mart.

Diamond.

we have had our dogs on diamond forthree years. LAst year we switched to black gold and the pooped about 10 times more and they didn't look as healthy unless you shoveled to food to them, especially the ones we were hunting a lot. Diamond is the best we have ever come by. We feed the naturals chicken and rice blend, and it doesn't take much and they look healthy.
happy hunting and take care

The Diamond naturals is a good food. The other diamond food would be ok to put in a feeder bucket, but i wouldn't feed it to my dogs.Way too much cleanup in the kennels.

Diamond. I have been feeding it for 7 years with good results. I like the green bag, especially in the winter, but you can give them Diamond Maintinence (Yellow bag) in the summer months.

I just

started feeding the SportsMix 24/20 and my dog love it and so do I. I get it a whole lot cheaper than Purina Pro Plan in which I was feeding up until now. Dogs look good on it and with little clean up. SportMix $23 Purina Pro Plan $38 do the math. Don' t get me wrong always loved Purina but I can't keep this up. JMO!!!!!!

I have been feeding Sportsmix in the blue bag (26-18) for years. Dogs look and hunt good. I will probably feed it as long as I have dogs.
The black bag is good to (24-20) seems to be alittle harder to find.

sportmix

if you feed black gold, or have, and liked it, then use the sportmix. if you look at the ingredients, it is almost the same feed made by different people. i like it, use it, and will continue to do so until they change it drastically, or the price gets to high for a working man to afford.

Hi-Standard's main office is in Illinois, give Wade a call at 866-357-3335 and I am sure he can get you dog food. I live west of St. Louis and he delivers 3-5 ton loads over in this area twice per month. Tell him old grumpy told you to call.

LOL!!! Borederline animal cruelty.

I guess these slick, shiny, hard hunted walker dogs in my kennel are suffering something terrible then. LOL!!

I get the black sportmix here for $179.oo for 10 bags.

The dogs eat it better than black gold, and it keeps them in shape, very little stool, and shiny and healthy.

Anyone that says sportmix or black gold isnt a quality feed hasnt got the brains God give a box of rocks.

Nobody is honestly saying that it won't or can't work. Just that there is better. Sportmix and Black Gold are nowhere close to being top grade feed. It'll serve the purpose for a maintenance feed but there are better choices for those requiring a higher grade fuel.

And once again...You dont know what you are talking about.

I have a 12 year old dog that is hunted 4-5 nights a week, weather permitting, and acts like a dog half his age.

Sorry feed wont keep him in the shape he is in.

Sorry feed wont keep bear dogs hunted 20 days straight in prime condition with shiny coats and still tugging at the end of their chains on the last day of their season.

And once again, you are wrong again.

I hate to break this to you but a bag of dog food isnt going to overcome genetic shortcomings or bad training.

If a dog be hunted 4-5 nights a week, stay looking healthy and in shape well into his later years eating a high fat, high protein feed like BG or Sportmix. What more can you ask for.

They are dogs..Not spoiled children. If you want to waste your money on a designer dog food or good meat products that need to be a person's plate and not a dog's bowl, go right ahead.

Well I sure didn't mean for this to turn into a pissing contest. I just was looking for suggestions on what to feed. I've fed Black Gold and it was ok, but it has been several years. I'm feeding Diamond right now cause thats all I've been able to find in my area. I'm open to suggestions on what to feed.

Thanks

skward

what were you feeding before you started with diamond extreme
one thing i qgree with you on is where the proiein comes from is more important than the percentage is look at those posion ingredients the chinese were adding fust to up the protein, perhaps the bags should be labeled percents of digestable ingredients

mine are right the opposite they will eat sports mix better than ANYTHING!! i preffer and reccomend sports mix it keeps my dogs fat a slick no matter how hard i hunt them. i would say try the two feeds and see which one works the best for your dogs and stick with it. Sports Mix is the ONLY kind of dog food i will buy to feed my babies, but each dog is different.
