I have a Plott female that has just started in the past couple months peeing in her dog house. It's nasty and stinks to high heaven. This is only the second Plott I've had, but have had several other dogs in my life (b&t's, brittany spaniels, and a couple mutts) and have never had this problem with any other dog. Any suggestions as to what to do to get her to quit?

i am no vet but i have had dogs for a long time and i can think of only three things that might make her do this. is she housed by herself? how old is she ? she may have blater infection of some kind. jmo

she is housed by herself in her own kennel too. She is almost 2 years old. bladder infection? i don't know. I had a guy tell me that with hogs, once they start peeing somewhere they keep doing it and the only way to stop them is to clean the area out with bleach. He also suggested using a different kind of material for bedding. I guess I'll try it and see if it works. Don't know what else to do right now.

I've had dogs (especially females) do this when it gets real cold. Guess they don't want to go out in the cold to do their business.

By then your "simple fix" may end up costing you more then you bargained for. Take the dog to the vet.

Unless your vet is a total A$$ hat...I'm sure they'd be willing to work with you on cost etc. Mine does it for me and I've been out of work for 18 months now.

Pee in the dog box too? Probably so. I've never had one myself but I know of one that would poop in the dog box. I don't think the guy ever found out what to do about it.

only pups pee in there box's, a old dog even gyps pee to mark there area. if she is housed by herself and she is peeing in her box she has a problem. it could be fix with as simple as a few shots of penic g . for a week. only time a dog that lets say is house broke and it pees in your home chances are it is peeing over top of some other dogs pee then bleach would help stop that kind of thing. and a hog will piss and **** in it's own feed so ya cant compare the two.... this is j,m,o but i would call a vet and see what they think. that is free or get on line and as the vet on line

Plottchaser,Its not that uncommon for females,90% of the time this can be solved by simply putting her in a smaller box(just big enough to sleep in and not very tall).

I can relate too this problem.. I also had a female that would pee in her house.. She was 2-3 years old, and I never got her to stop I did'nt know what to do either. I thought she was just too D@mn lazy to go out and pee !! I changed her bedding in the winter on a regular basis. But in the summer, I made her sleep on the bare doghouse floor, and she would'nt pee as much with the bedding out of the house.. I sold her not for the peeing reason but sold her after a year or so. And it took a couple of months to get the smell and dog house back in living condition for another dog...

I don't know what urges them to do it but, I've raised several dogs out of well-known stud dogs the last several years that had this problem. I couldn't understand a dog wanting to sleep and live in its own piss all year round. I'm starting to believe that all the linebreeding and such are making some of the absolutley RETARDED!!! I've tried different things. They just don't have any kennel manners I guess. These kind didn't stick around long. Happy Huntin'
