Buying dogs online

If you have in past bought a dog from this message board , please vote. Im curious as to the satisfaction of buyers. This would only apply to those that chose not to try the dog before buying. I realize you should try a dog before , but I know alot are sold without trying.

I just purchased a pup from another message board and the man did me right. I bought the pup sight unseen on the mans word that it was a nice pup. I am hard to please and nice is an understatement on the health and looks and mouth on this pup. His pedigree isn't bad either.

We bought a Redbone puppy from ANSCOX. Andrew and Suzanne Cox in Cookesville, Tenn. I sent them my deposit, they gave me first pick female. Well, heck, I'm in Ohio. So I asked Suzanne to pick me out the darkest red female she had. She did. She's now...PR Fincham's Indian River StarzNBars aka Little Anne. (Only in America breeding) Andrew and Suzanne are real nice folks, and those two precious babies, OMG I wanted to bring them both home! Anyway, everything went great. UNLESS, I can blame Little Anne's attitude, chewing, and plain dang orneryness on them, then I have nothing to complain about!!!

Thanks Suzanne and Andrew for being GOOD, KIND FOLKS THAT STAND BY YOUR WORD!! KISS THE BABIES FOR ME!!!

it's a crap shoot.........

a few years ago I bought a bluetick out of Smiley's Blue Levi (off this site) from a guy in Kentucky and she was exactly word for word like he said she was.........

it really depends on who you buy from....... I tend to take a man for his word (until I find out otherwise)

the maddest I ever got was about a year ago I talked to a guy a couple times (by phone), set up a date & time to see his dog.....I took my dog box w/ me and plained on buying her based on phone conversations... drove 2 hours (one way), looked at the dog, really liked her looks, i liked her size, she was marked up the way I like & if she was like he said I was going to be happy.... the longer we talked, inconsistencies popped up between what he said on the ph & what he was saying in person..... I got specific about a couple things & he back tracked a little (especially when it came to showing her in the woods) "she's been layed up for a while, so she may not do this or do that".... I asked about a trial & HE DID SAY HE WOULD GIVE TWO WEEKS..... ok, fair enough.... (normally I'd take the trial, but gut feeling said make him show her)... so I pressed showing her in the woods.... finally I said "you show her in the woods, if I like her I'll buy her as is, no trial"..... we agreed I'd be back @ 6:00 PM the following week (again he pointed out she'd been laid up for several months).. figured he'd hunt her that week & she'd be ready..... he gave me a location where we could meet....

that Thursday, drove 3 hours (left straight from work), got to the location right @ 5:00 (I was early so just wait)... it started getting dark so I changed boots.... it's almost 6:00, I put my light on... 6:05, I gotta pee.... 6:10, better call & make sure I'm @ right spot (no answer)... 6:15, call (no answer) 6:16, 6:16 anna half (no answer).. what the crap??
few minutes later he called me back... told him I was there ready & waiting... he started hee haw'n around then said he forgot I was coming... told him "no problem, I'll wait on ya."... he started hee haw'n a lot then & finally said he sent the dog to Kentucky.... from that point on I can't remember what all I said, but I know it wasn't good... the 2 hour drive home was not a happy one..... he had adds on that dog & a few more on this site....

P.S. get on here and dispute 1 word of this and I'll take a 2 hour drive......

I tried out three different dogs that were for sale on the classifieds section of this message board.

Dog #1 - walker female. 3 years old. Guy wanted $1200 for her. We turned her loose by herself with the leaves off 5 different times. 5 slick trees. Guy acted like he just couldn't believe it. I didn't buy the dog.

Dog #2 - English male. "supposedly" 5 years old. Guy wanted $1,000 for dog. Dog's teeth were worn down like at least a 12 to 14 year old dog. Dog was proportioned like a old, wornout, arizona pack mule. All his weight was down below his ribs. Real pot bellied looking yet his spine was all boney. Turned dog loose 5 times. Dog only got treed one time and had one coon. All the other turnouts he didn't even get more than 100 yards from us at any point in time. 2 of those turnouts the dog acted like he was about to have a heart attack and couldn't even physically hunt. He was out of breath and panting all the time even on the first turnout. Owner acted shocked by how the dog acted. I didn't buy the dog.

Dog #3. - English male. 4 years old. Guy wanted $2,500 for dog. First turnout, turned dog loose by himself, dog stayed gone for 45 minutes and never opened his mouth. Came back running up to us from down the road we were parked on. Second turnout, unsnapped dog and he circled around right quick like and loaded back up in the dog box. Owner cussed dog out and drags him out of dog box. Third turnout, dog got treed, couldn't find anything at all. Owner was VERY QUIET on the way home. I didn't buy dog.

I think

it's ok to buy puppies on here, But you had better try a older dog out in the woods before paying a large amount of money.I found out one thing. don't price a good dog too cheap.hard to sell him.everybody thinks he is just some junk your trying to push of on someone. Rodney

We've just decided that it's not worth buying or selling an adult dog online.

I believe we will start a new rule that any adult dog we sell as a hunter must be tried out first. Now show dogs are different, you can look at a picture and pretty much know what you're getting.

We've bought a few adults and pups online. Pups have mostly been fine. A few issues there but nothing that wasn't worked out.

The adult dogs have mostly not been what they were supposed to be. Two were supposed to be finished hunting dogs and one stayed at our feet the whole time and ended up being spayed and placed in a pet home. The other, a male, was given to a kid who just wanted a farm dog to run around with.

The last one we got we were pleased with, she was advertised as a started dog and priced well for one, $300. I would have given more for her as she's turning into a nice dog. Still has a good bit of work to do but a nice work in progress. We were sceptical about her, but the owner said we could bring her back if we weren't happy. I believe he goes by hoosier on here, thanks a bunch!

One thing that bothers me is people who go out and get a dog for $300 and then expect it to be a professional hunter. Get real folks.
On the other side, when you spend over $1500 on a dog in my opinion it better be ready to comp. hunt tomorrow and win. No dog is worth that if it doesn't already do something.

Me & my Son

bought a Bluetick Female off the board about 5 yrs. ago from a guy in Arkansas. I think his name was Nathan young man. Everything he said about her was true and we loved her. We put a fourth place finish on her and never hunted her that much in the hunts after that. We were very pleased. The guys uncle brought the dog up here to Greensboro NC. in the sleeper of his big rig. So yeah we had a good experience. I know all are not that good.

I have had both good and bad. But I believe you get what you pay for. If you are on here and buy a 3 or 4 year old dog for 500.00 dollars well I hope you are not expecting a world champion (usually don't happen at that price). Also I believe most people don't know what they are looking at when they come and try a dog anyway.

We bought a hound 3 weeks ago. The dog is 4 years old,$3500.00 plus in pkc winnings, breeders showcase winner in 2006,super stakes quarter finalist,3 wins toward grnitech.
He came from the north where there are no armadillos and a coon in every other tree.
At present we're 100% dissatisfied. We only have around $3700.00 in what was supposedly a $5,000.00,independent,90% accurate, junk free COONHOUND that can compete on any level..LOL

This ole boy is the best dillar dog in the world bar non !
He'll tree a coon once in a while if the dillars aren't out.
He is a on the wood, looking up tree dog```when he stays.
If he leaves the tree, you can bet your eternal soul he'll go find a dillar....after 18 dillars in 16 straight nights of hunting, thy soul is safe ! Praise GOD !

The dog was raised by the fella who did all the winning for him. This past hide season he was said to have been hunted in preparation for the upcoming hunts to be finished out..but...after long and hard thought, was offered for sale due to other dogs being pushed in the hunts.
The dog was sold to a fella in missouri who owned/hunted him for a week who decided the hound was to much of a trailing type hound for him,,, along with the gentleman also had other hounds to push in the hunts.

This hound has some major issues that will be worked out...one way or another. He's good natured, not mean ill or fussy.I believe with patience and understanding he can be conditioned to be a hound that will work in this part of the world.

In the future we'll not buy a hound online off an individuals word w/o hunting with the dog before hand & taking the dog on trial with money in hand for a minimum of one week. I feel if a man won't allow a hound out on trial with cash in hand there must be an unsaid hole somewhere.

Do I feel cheated? NO
Do I feel I wasn't volunterly told EVERYTHING....good or bad? Most certainly.

My advice to anyone buying online is get references of the said dog. Keep in mind references will sometimes lie in the name of friendship. Not everyone is a liar...but...when it comes to coonhounds it seems honesty is something that isn't in a lot of the coon hunting world.
Do your homework...don't be afraid to call a spade a spade...be honest and expect the same...at the end of the day you can sleep with a clear conscience...whether buying or selling

I do not believe that if someone will not send a dog on trial, that there is a hole.

I will show any dog that I sell here, but I will not send one off on trial.

A man never knows how another man will treat his dog while he is gone.

I had one go out on trial a couple of years ago, and the person beat him for making a bad tree and it spooked him.So from then on, all the trial a person wants here. Just my opinion though...

42.06% complete satisfaction imo is unacceptable if the figure were based on number of hounds sold per individual. I guess 40% isn't all bad when dealing with online sales based on an individuals word.

It's now mid April. After many electrified nights the ole boy has finally decided dillars are way to painful. The last four outtings he has treed coons and been to himself at least once every drop.

As for selling dogs. We'll soon be offering Jiggs for sale providing he continues to prove himself worthy.

WE ALSO GOT A FEMALE FROM JAKE GARNER.

IT WAS OUR JEWEL FEMALE. HE TOLD US, THAT HE HUNTED HER A FEW TIMES BEFORE SHE CAME IN HEAT AND THEN HE BRED HER TO SETH.

HE SAID SHE RAN TRACK AND TREED WITH THE OTHER DOGS, BUT HE COULD NOT AND WOULD NOT SAY WHAT SHE WOULD DO BY HERSELF BECAUSE HE DIDNT GET A CHANCE TO TAKE HER.

HE SAID SHE HAD A HUGE MOUTH, WAS A NICE TRACK DOG, BIG LOCATE AND STEADY TREE DOG.

EVEN THOUGH HE JUST TOLD US WHAT HE KNEW, JEWEL WAS A NICE OLE FEMALE. SHE TREED US MANY A COON. SHE WAS BIG, BEAUTIFUL AND LOUD, THEY MY WORD SHE WAS LOUD. SHE WAS A GREAD ADDITION TO OUR KENNEL, AND WILL BE SADLY MISSED.

THIS IS THE OLD GAL ABOUT 2 MONTHS AFTER WE GOT HER.
