We've walked to a few coon trees , but the good ones seem to know the difference by the way they're handled.
Coonhunting , we free cast. Bear hunting , we put them on a track.
The ones that tend to drop off on coon don't really want to run a bear anyways.
The trick is to be honest with yourself. If you got a dog that is dropping off and treeing coon , stop taking it. Get him/her out of the pack.
Same way with a trash runner. If they keep running trash when you put them down , quit putting them down until you've got them broke.

Where abouts you live M&S ?
