Any Ideas On What Could Have Done This???

went to check my coon traps this afternoon only to find the metal door to my trap bent to pieces and covered in blood. the cage part i still havent found but it may have been knocked into the nearby pond and sunk to the bottom. what would do that all i can figure is a pack of coyotes decided to make whatever was in my trap supper??? really creepy though kinda scared me ....

I've seen big coons destroy live traps before. Any hair on or around the trap?

Bear? If it warms for a few days they'll go out looking for food.

I cant see coyotes tearing a door off a trap, a normal cage trap anyways. There's nothing for them to grab.

Could have also been a jealous person.

What brand of trap was it. I build Newhaven traps and I can't see any thing ripping one apart.

Trap

I would guess something much larger than a coyote or even pack of yotes.

not really any bears around these parts... i cant find the trap looked for it again this mornin the door has tooth holes in it and like i said covered in blood the trap was less than a week old its just a cage trap with the solid metal door like you would buy from any tractor supply... im gonna set another one in the same spot and put my game camera up and see if i can find out what it is.... the scariest part is the trap was only about 150 yrds from my buddies kennels?

Honestly, what type of animal could pierce a steel door with it's teeth? I would think something along the lines of a bear or maybe a panther???I have heard of rare cases of panthers in the Georgia area and they do have both rarely down in Florida.

Does a coyote even have enough bite pressure to do something like that?

It could have been a large gator that poped its head out for a cold weather snack.

here in VT anyway a coyote is leary of going near any steel or metal. we will put an old chain near our cat baits and a coyote will stay away for a while. my guess would be bear.
