Both of my hounds like to pull me in the woods and pull me leaving the woods. lol What can I do to break them from continuing to pull rather than just follow are atleast walk. they wear me out. Ive smaked them enough and still wont follow directions. They just want to pull me on the leash. What can I do.

CHOKE CHAIN WILL WORK WONDERS.

IT WONT BE LONG BEFORE THEY FIGURE OUT IF THEY DONT PULL THEY CAN BREATH.

HOWEVER, A SWITCH IS OUR BEST METHOD. LOL.

You need to be boss. If you are not boss 100% of the time dogs will sense it.

Choke chains work well, but they need to be high on the neck almost right behind the ears. You should also never let the dog lead you. You are the leader so you should lead the way at all times.

my buddy showed me.Take the first 8 to 10 inches of lead comin'off dog's collar and lay it across his back.Then take the end you hold in your hand and run it around his belly and then underneath the part layin' across his back,then back into your hand.They'll learn real quick.Whenever they pull,the lead will cinch-up on they're belly.Believe me - they don't like it.Give it a try.It's never failed for me.

Whatever method you choose, it should be done in the yard, in the daylight. By the time you go hunting, you have more on your mind than training a dog to lead.

Firm consistant training will get you a lot farther than all of a sudden training after the dog is all hyped up from treeing a coon.....

Take your lead strap and run it between it's front legs. Wrap it around the stomach and penis area. That will get there attention and it will keep them to walk beside you. You are not the master of these dogs when they do this you have to be the dominant male. Always make them walk beside you.

Everybody is about beating their dogs. Dog won't listen....beat it into submission....nice.

Get a pronged training collar. They sell 'em at the pet stores. Also get the rubber ends that fit over the prongs. You want the collar to ride up just behind the dogs ears. NOT low on its neck.

When the dog tries to step in front of you a quick snap on the lead and a firm NO! When the dog stops...praise it up. Don't let the lead get too long. Keep the dog close to you at your side. Do this every time you take the dog anywhere. Even if its just from its kennel to the dog box. Pretty soon it will figure it out and will walk nice next to you.

The only good thing a choke collar does it damage a dogs throat. They should be banned.

i agree with plottluvr i've got the pronged pinch collar and that thing is like cruise control my dog knows when that goes on its time to be on his best best best behavior

run your lead between the front and back legs, if that doesnt work try a thing called the Gentle lead, it works by putting pressure on the muzzle when they pull. it works great. most pet stores sell them

I start with a slap of the leash.when the dog pulles slap on there side.takes about ten min.

pinch collars and pronged collars are one in the same! i only use mine when i'm not huntin him and they are relatively cheap (not dirt cheap) just not overly expensive maybe 15 bucks is what i paid for mine if i remember correctly but well worth it. before i had it my dog would danged near pull my arm right outta socket first time i put it on him he walked like an angel after the first time i gave him a pinch he didnt want nothin more to do with that feelin so he knows when its on he dont mess around hell he wont even look at other dogs when hes on no matter how much the bark and antagonize him

Pinch collars or Prong training collars are the same thing.

They sell them at pet stores and they're not expensive at all. DO NOT use them while the dog is hunting. It is for training only.

I use one on my older female Plott. I don't have to remind her anymore or have the leash hooked to anymore, just having it on does the trick. All I have to do is hold it up and she goes to my side and sits down.
