Would you participate???

In a high dollar club hunt to keep your club up and running?

$100 per dog 20 dog limited entry. Top 4 cast winners can hunt off for $1,000 or split for $250 each. Winner of 5th cast gets $250. Club keeps $750

Would you pay to play or is it too steep.

Yes I would do it, and I would even donate the winnings back to the club, keeping only the entry fee.

We have hard enough time trying to pay the bills State tax on 8 acres here is up to $2,800.00

Last year I ran an aution out on my personal property to the highest bidder for 1 years bow hunting rights for 1 person, it netted the club $1050.00.

Whatever it takes to keep clubs alive. without them where will the hunts be?

That was kind of what I had in mind. I figured the shot to win big would help get the 20 dogs needed. If they split they still come out with $250 which aint bad for a cast win. If it wasnt to get a club back on its feet I would see the necessity to pay more and would want too pay more.

Right now I am just thinking out loud looking for input from others with hunt numbers down clubs are struggling. Selling soda pops and pot luck dinners aint helping much either.

I would do it. I would probably advertise it as club members being non-hunting guides, this way nobody could assume a local was going to win. I know most people are honest, but if a person is dropping $100.00 they want to know they have a chance and are hunting on a level playing field. I am sure even with no members actually hunting you could still get 20 dogs.

We made this 2 day weekend event in November...It was a real good time...We drove from Brighton, TN (just north of Memphis, TN)to let the hounds play some games. 5 1/2 to 6 hour drive...Plan on making 2 long trips(both about 6 hours) down south(TX & LA) the next couple weekends for field trials. I agree, throw in a few other events and more folks may get more interested and come from farther away. We look for the events that offer more for us to do. We water race, field trial and show. Not everbody with coon dogs hunt in the 'nite hunts'. Play more fun games with low fees(that's extra FREE cash for the club)..Treeing contest, roll cage contest, dashes...Do some free ones for the kids, so they can show off their dogs. That brings more families to the events..That means more money is spent to keep the kids happy. We are in a time that folks are looking for a deal and cheap entertainment. Offering more at one event sounds to me like a deal. Less driving to get more accomplished with the hounds is a deal with us !!

I know that licensing for live coon is a cost, but we have gone to several clubs this year that do not use live coon...Water pits can be a cost...But the field trials are just a little sweat to get set up..Everybody has some old lumber and different materials laying around the their shops, sheds and barns to make a starting box..Heck, Hartford, KY did not even have a start box. All just some other ideas to add to your fund raisings idead of a high stakes hunt. What could it hurt...Good luck coming up with something. I wish your club good success in the coming up years...Most of them are gonna need some creative ideas to stay afloat.

Where is your club at and when will you have some water races? We would be glad to fit some Arkansas clubs in. So far we have just used Arkansas for their hi-ways to get to the clubs in further away states!!

This is our situation....We have over 15 clubs within a 2 to 3 hour loop of us...That is including bordering states, Ark, Miss and Kentucky...We have about 7 or more that are within a 2 hour loop. Some of those hold HUNTS ONLY. Some hunts & shows. None of which offer water and field trials. We did not attend many of those club events at all this past year. We were having to drive double the time to find events that we could participate in...Not just shows, we can show anywhere. We wanted to do more and that is what we did. We don't comp hunt, for personal reasons, but we love to compete in other venues with the hounds.

HI EDDIE !!
Plan on seeing you guys again !! We will be bringing the grand baby next time. She will have a blast at ya'lls place !! Look for the Red dawgs !! Loved you guys, we had an awesome time !!

I just joined a club and went to the annual meeting in jan. They recently started doing water races which sounds like a lot of work to get ready for but had a good turnout and plan to have 1 or 2 this summer. Also there is a couple that cooks for the events and they sell chili and barbecues the club covers the cost of the food and they cook and sell it. When they were reading off what the club has now and expenses they are sitting in good shape. The profits from the food sold at the events last year made a big difference. The same couple said they would do it again this year,it is nice when you have people in your club that want to see it keep going and will put in time to try to help. Good luck with your club I hope you can come up with some things that will help.

Hey Eddie.

Can ya'll shoot me over ya'lls club events schedule for this year? Sam wanted me to make sure I got in touch with all the clubs we visited this past year, so that we can get a return visit or two lined up. He hates waiting month to month on the Bloodlines.

Eric,

If ya already have some water races scheduled, shoot me over what ya got. We would love to find more not so far away from home. Our closest right now is Kinder, MO., 3 1/2 hours away. We would love to visit your club !! Ihope we can drop in on ya this year!

Thanks,

They asked what events we were going to have the water races and I told them all of them. Someone said it would be too cold in feb and nov and i said, we all hunt in swamps that the dogs have to swim through and that is during the night time when it is even colder, why cant they swim during the day. They agreed and we have have a real nice turnout every event and it has helped to bring the club some much needed extra money.

Eric, the problem that comes up with your club hunt format is that rules become a major problem. Sure, you can say we will use this KC's rules but if it isn't santioned, especialy with that kind of money on the line, you are buying yourself some major hard feelings that will wipeout your profit in the long run.
There are sanctioned hunts with the various KC's that provide good income for the club. One, for example offers 16 dog hunts with a $100.00 entry that pays the club $458.00 and pays the 4 cast winners a $267.00 split. Myself, I would not put $100.00 into a non santioned hunt but I have paid that much to enter sancioned hunts even with the chiteaters I have.

Another KC has $200 entry for 16 dogs. Club gets $560 off the top. Most are filling. If they don't you haven't lost anything.

I know for myself and others I know and hunt with, that the price of the entry fee is irrelivant.
If my dog wins me a cast and some cash, Im raising his lifetime earnings, and adding that to my state standings, and top 16, means more to me than putting the cash in my front pocket.
Heck, I spent $275 a night all week, to hunt 2 hrs each night, in oct. trying to get the right breaks and a cast win.

Chad I know exactly what you are saying we discussed that very point yesterday. Many times a hundred won on the right dog can be worth more than $500 or $1,000 in your pocket
