strait ya rite

Well I have ben realy bragging on this young dog. took her out with another dog a few nights back. casted them out we are standing there watching the dogs work through the timber.my dog crosses a loging road. the other dog opens she turns and goes to him.he trees we go to him and she is there. shes standing next to the tree looking at us as we come in. shes not treeing and she didn't open but there is a porky inthe tree. now I don't know what to say. it was cold and they never opened again that nite. but I wish she would of just kept to her self and not went to him. what would you do in this situation. I guess I should say that she has ben very strait and has treed a lot of coons this past fall.

Sounds like she went to see what the other dog had and when she didn't smell coon she just sat there and waited. I wouldn't scold her for it. Just pull them both off the tree and recast somewhere else.

You ask, "what would you do in this situation?"

I teach all of our dogs the command No. They all know what it means. Most times with a young dog all I have to do is tell it No and it gets the ideal of my displeasure. So to answer your question I would leash the dog up tell it no and lead it away while the other dog is still treeing.

well what I did was scold her told her no bad dog and sent her on.she left the tree with tail between legs. and hunted on about 45 min latter she returned to the truck and that was that. but the guy I was hunting with whooped his dog and leashed him up. but did not send him on. and I believe you should send them on when they do wrong. jmo

I agree. I wouldn't of leashed the dog. Not a fan of beating dogs but whatever. I wouldn't of even scolded the female for it. Just ignored it and sent her on. She sounds like she's sensitive and being hollered at took the hunt out of her that night.

Technically she didn't "do" anything wrong. She didn't sound off at the porky she just went to see what the other dog had and like I said before when it wasn't a coon she just waited.

I'm not a fan of beating a dog neither. but there are times when it is needed . I dont believe it took the hunt out of her that nite. it was cold close to zero and windy. there just wasn't anything moving besides that porky. like I said she didn't say anything all nite.
