BBQ is good. I have eat them boiled/steamed and it wasn't fit to eat that way. Have also eaten them fried and they were GGGRRREEEAAATTT that way!!

In roasting pan place coon cover w/ sauerkraut & roast ..... put on table w/a side of mashed potatoes,applesause...a tradition here since 1960...

Yall can have my share. I have ate it but don't intend on doing it any time soon. My dad and grandparents want some though so I guess I will kill them a few to eat. The ones I had were boiled untill tender and then BBQ in the oven.

havent ate one in years.but when i did......only young ones..... did one older one was tuff.........

I bbq'da few........ cooked ina open pit for a few hours with red and black pepper..... then wrapped in tin foil and cooked a few more hours,,, tender as H E DUBBLE L.........
one i cooked likea roast. smothereed in gravy and taters and onions, bell peppers and carrots...........

Bryan, I am with you. I have tried them every way just to suit the particular chef that would assure me I would like them. I didnt and still dont and never will. Think about this. We deworm our dogs,we deworm our cats,we deworm our live stock. Who deworms the coons? Notta. The last one we fixed (1987ish) was infested with worms throughout the Leg roast and wasnt discovered until I was cutting it up at the table. We threw it away and headed for MCdonalds. I just dont care for coon meat.

Casey, You are more brave then I am. I guess I am a picky eater. I do not like eating where worms have been let alone where they are. My wife sometimes referes to me as "Chef Ramsey". LOL

I ate coon twice....the first and last time. I did not like the texture of the meat. It was coarse and stringy. Why waste barbecue sauce on a coon when you could put it on chicken, or pig?


Worms????? Maby it wasn't the meat that was so stringy.

Mountain Oasters and coons and the Mountain Oasters are good but the coon is not very good no matter how you cooked it and my Grandpa made me try it every way you could think to cook it Fried, BBQ, Steamed, Baked, and Boiled and it tasted like SH-- no matter how it as cooked.

2. Do you soak your coon in saltwater to draw out the blood?

...LOTS of stuff we eat has worms... fish have parasites... wild game etc... COOK your food thoroughly and not a worry. The parasites will be DEAD and COOKED.... I guess a majority of people have not been able to have the ODD adventures I did as a kid... my father liked food adventures. We had strange stuff from around the world... chocolate covered bugs etc.... 2 things I vowed I'd never eat for ANY reason... spider and horse... oh... 4... add to that dog and HUMAN... I assume if I were starving and family were starving I'd have to change that list...????
I haven't tried coon. Was planning to but couldn't get past the FAT when I did the butchering. I"m too used to meat from a store. WILL try it when someone who knows how to cook it WELL prepares it first... so I don't have to see the fat.
Oh Yeah... turkey and chicken are "stringy" too... LOL..

ALso... I do not like venison... but having it in a wild game stew from a local gun club... it was Great... the texture changes depending on how stuff is cooked.
Personally I tend to LOVE food someone else cooks
