When something like this happens and you aren't expecting it, I am talking about the club members, sometimes they don't know what to do. As a VP of the club, now that you have experienced it, you realize how important it is to go over with the club members what to do when something like this happens. You need to do the fire drill, then everybody knows their job and how to handle it in a professional manor that doesn't cause any longer lasting problems for the innocent.
If you owned a bar and were having events involving a lot of the public, you can believe the owner of the club has informed his bartender, bouncers, and waitresses on how to handle rowdy customers. And.......when it gets down and dirty and a dip ship doesn't want to leave, then you let him know you are going to call the police, and if he doesn't leave then call them. But when a guy is vagrantly threatening to do damage, call the police as he is treatening bodily harm. If he hit you from behind with a tire iron it is too late to call, unless somebody does it for you.
If a guy was threatening to beat my butt before I got there I would have the law showing up just after I got there, so he can suffer the consequences of assault or threatening assault. He doesn't get any warning, or you could have the officers at the club to ask him to leave and tell him why, then call 911 if he doesn't. He has a lot to lose, like a DWI as he would probably be stupid enough to get in his car and drive off when they told him to leave, instead of telling them he can't drive due to his possiblity of being impaired.
The club itself has the right to ban people from participating in their events, I thought UKC use to note on the score card that said your club could refuse an entry, but I didn't see it there so maybe it has been removed.
The club can send him a registered letter today stating that he will not be allowed on the premises for future events due to previous disorderly conduct. You are conducting a business and if you continue to have him around he will drive off your customers. If you had a resturant and you had a drunk disrupting the dining room, it wouln't take much to see that he had to go.
Send it registered mail to get a signature card that he got it, and a day later send one without the return receipt. You don't have to have his signature to make it stick. Use the address on the UKC entry, but double check to make sure it is correct.
From the UKC hunt rules:
19. Any person intimidating, threatening, or injuring a hunter, Judge, Master of Hounds, Club Official or UKC Representative will be subject to sanctions under the Inherent Rights and Powers of the UKC Details and procedures for handling this situation are available from UKC; however, UKC reserves unto itself, in its sole judgement and discretion the right to take such action and impose such sanctions as it deems appropriate. My note: remember you can have the police remove him first and have the above implemented.
6(g) To be scratched: If a handler is drinking or if he seems to want to stir up trouble. My thoughts: Here the judge of the cast is accountable to take the initial action and the Master of Hounds to back it up.
From the Master of Hounds guidelines book:
If an individual attempting to enter a UKC Licensed Nite Hunt appears, in your judgement, to be under the influence of alcohol or unprescribed drugs, do not take the entry. Notify the appropriate club individual or officer of what you are doing and why. Once entries are closed, as a matter of courtesy, draw the Grand Nite Champions first and the Nite Champions second. If a state requires a license or permit number, make certain that it appears on each scorecard. My thoughts: Here the Master of Hounds should also be told that he is not doing his job and he is accountable for letting this man in and get out of control.
