what do you think about this club

I went to a club last night and got casted out with a guy who was drinking the the master hound was notified about this but was still allowed to hunt. The more drops we made the worse he got finally they was a dog fight involveing his dog so I scratched him. Then it was on so I put a ? on it and we went back to the master hound he scratched his dog and the other one.So I had to get a non hunting judge to take me back out my wife was with me but she stayed at the club that time. And while I was gone he told other members when I got back he was going to kick my a$$.So when the hunt was over I called her and she said he was still there but not to worry they was about 20 members waiting outside with him to make sure I made it in the club alright. So when I went in he was saying some pretty harsh words but nothing was being done about it.I went outside to smoke and he followed me he got in my face then his buddy grabed him and got him away. Now this being said I'm vice president of this club but I feel like while I was back out hunting they should have solved the matter and told him to leave or called the law.And as of this thursday I will no longer be a member at this club nor will I ever hunt there again. Just bored and wanted to see what everyone thought

Thanks

some things are worth getting a point across, and if someone disrespects you that bad in front of your wife and friends, i think it would be worth it

doing the right thing

i'm sorry to hear about your problem, but leaving the club will not resolve it. you need to notify ukc about the problem you had. make sure to have his full name, along with the dog he was hunting, the cast no., your presidents name, and the master of hounds name. try to get some statements from others that was present and have them sign them. if you do not do something about the problem there it will happen again to some other person or even a newly hunting kid. please notify ukc. those kind of people need to be banned from all ukc events. thats the kind of person that causes people not to want to attend hunts. i am the president of the sooner cooners in oklahoma and if i can help you in any way just give me a call 918-448-7321 i would be glad to help. our club has a zero tollerance policy that prevents people like that from attending our events. we write them up and send it in to ukc to have on file that way if it happens at another club with the same person they will bar them. once again please notify ukc and let them help correct the problem.

I think the officers and membership in that club need grow a set of kahunas and do what needs to be done. The individual shouldn't have even been allowed to participate in the first place, then his behavior was enough that he should be barred from UKC events. The club should also bar him from the club.
You should also post what club it is because I would not want to support a club not willing to do the right thing.
No one wants to drive someone away from a club but when the individuals behavior will drive away more folks than the club needs to do what's right. More people respect and participate at your club knowing the club will make the tough decisions for the right reasons to keep the integrity of the sport.

well I didn't want to say much to him because there was a 16 year old girl in the cast. I figured I would just let the club handle it.But that didn't work either.

Ban him from the club. UKC may not do anything, depending on wheter or not he has been reported. However, as a club, I believe you can ban someone from participating in an event at your club. If your club has a constitution or by laws, look into it. The Master of Hounds should have done something if this person was outwardly making threats towards you while you were not there.
That sounds like more of a hearsay issue though.

When something like this happens and you aren't expecting it, I am talking about the club members, sometimes they don't know what to do. As a VP of the club, now that you have experienced it, you realize how important it is to go over with the club members what to do when something like this happens. You need to do the fire drill, then everybody knows their job and how to handle it in a professional manor that doesn't cause any longer lasting problems for the innocent.

If you owned a bar and were having events involving a lot of the public, you can believe the owner of the club has informed his bartender, bouncers, and waitresses on how to handle rowdy customers. And.......when it gets down and dirty and a dip ship doesn't want to leave, then you let him know you are going to call the police, and if he doesn't leave then call them. But when a guy is vagrantly threatening to do damage, call the police as he is treatening bodily harm. If he hit you from behind with a tire iron it is too late to call, unless somebody does it for you.

If a guy was threatening to beat my butt before I got there I would have the law showing up just after I got there, so he can suffer the consequences of assault or threatening assault. He doesn't get any warning, or you could have the officers at the club to ask him to leave and tell him why, then call 911 if he doesn't. He has a lot to lose, like a DWI as he would probably be stupid enough to get in his car and drive off when they told him to leave, instead of telling them he can't drive due to his possiblity of being impaired.

The club itself has the right to ban people from participating in their events, I thought UKC use to note on the score card that said your club could refuse an entry, but I didn't see it there so maybe it has been removed.

The club can send him a registered letter today stating that he will not be allowed on the premises for future events due to previous disorderly conduct. You are conducting a business and if you continue to have him around he will drive off your customers. If you had a resturant and you had a drunk disrupting the dining room, it wouln't take much to see that he had to go.

Send it registered mail to get a signature card that he got it, and a day later send one without the return receipt. You don't have to have his signature to make it stick. Use the address on the UKC entry, but double check to make sure it is correct.

From the UKC hunt rules:

19. Any person intimidating, threatening, or injuring a hunter, Judge, Master of Hounds, Club Official or UKC Representative will be subject to sanctions under the Inherent Rights and Powers of the UKC Details and procedures for handling this situation are available from UKC; however, UKC reserves unto itself, in its sole judgement and discretion the right to take such action and impose such sanctions as it deems appropriate. My note: remember you can have the police remove him first and have the above implemented.

6(g) To be scratched: If a handler is drinking or if he seems to want to stir up trouble. My thoughts: Here the judge of the cast is accountable to take the initial action and the Master of Hounds to back it up.

From the Master of Hounds guidelines book:

If an individual attempting to enter a UKC Licensed Nite Hunt appears, in your judgement, to be under the influence of alcohol or unprescribed drugs, do not take the entry. Notify the appropriate club individual or officer of what you are doing and why. Once entries are closed, as a matter of courtesy, draw the Grand Nite Champions first and the Nite Champions second. If a state requires a license or permit number, make certain that it appears on each scorecard. My thoughts: Here the Master of Hounds should also be told that he is not doing his job and he is accountable for letting this man in and get out of control.

I know first hand as a club officer that is not always very fun to make the tough decisions, especially when it means telling one of your peers they are no longer welcome, but when these individuals decide to use poor judgment and act inappropriately as club officers it is your duty to act accordingly. As much as I hate to see it happen, I'll never regret being part of the process that hopefully will help clean things up in the sport as well as set a precedent for our club on what type of behavior is not tolerable.

Two Things-

You should file a formal complaint to UKC - about the person, and about the club. You as VP also has responsibility. You should have gotten with the president and other officers who were there and taken action and kicked him out. With the threats being made, I would have called the law.

Next - you need to attend the next meeting and call all these guys out. Where were they to take action on this? Hiding behind their wives skirts? Kick him out, report it to UKC.

Then after all this is said and done - find him after the fact (off club grounds and nothing to do with the hunt) and teach him a lesson about respect in front of women.

Ok, so the issue was brought up at our next meeting. It was voted on and drafted into the minutes that the man in question would be sent a letter stating that he would be on probation for the next six months and he was to attend the meeting in December to address the issue further. The letter would be sent out before the next meeting to be sure that he would get it in time.

Well guess what. The meeting was tonight and the Club stated that they did not send the letter, that they decided to handle it a different way (After it was adopted into the minutes and voted on). I stated when was this changed and they said awhile ago!

This was done WITHOUT a meeting. WITHOUT minutes. WITHOUT voting.

The only thing the PRESIDENT of the club said was "Boys, hate me if you want but you all should have sent the letter."

Another member stated "Enough word of mouth got to him that he knows he done wrong"

An incident happed previously that was not nearly as bad, and they sent him a letter, and suspended completely (no hunts) for 6 months.

My feeling on this is that the guy that got suspended was not part of their "Clique" and this man is!

Needless to say, I am SUPER MAD!

Todd Kellum, we need to talk. This club has gone too far this time. It is not a club. It is a bunch of COWARDS who act like "Catty" old ladies at a bingo tournament.
