Hunting Question????

With regards to the new rule 4 (k) - What happens on a 2 dog cast, if dog A is struck and treed and the 5 min. is up and then before u start to dog A, u hear dog B treed in the same location of dog A. BUT the handler for dog B does not call his dog treed, only struck......and it will only take 3 min to walk to the tree. What will happen to dog B and he is at the same tree as dog A?

Their answers are correct. However I have to question why the 5 minutes are up and you still haven't started towards the tree? Why are you still 3 minutes away? Unless the rule changed and I wasn't made aware of it, you are supposed to be at the tree when the 5 expires, if at all possible.

OK whatever!
In other words you only follow rules that are convenient for you to follow. Read the post! The five was up and they haven't even started towards the tree. I live and hunt central Florida I know all about rough hunting. Lets not beat that dead horse any more.

IN rule 17. it states that a dog should hold a tree for 5 min and since the other dog is not treed u should NOT be at the tree right when time is up.....u should wait the 5 min a dog should hold the tree at a location that is less than 5 min. away from the tree. Since the tree was only 3 min. away.... the hunter did the right thing by not going on up there to the tree.

Son I think you need to reread the rule. It says "Judge is not to let anyone go to the tree and start shining in LESS THAN FIVE MINUTES! It goes on to say "If at all possible possible, be at the tree within five(5) minutes". Don't try to half ass quote me rules. I know them as wel as anyone and better then most! You should reread and try to understand what you read.

well clay.....If you have the same rule book as me....it does say to be at the tree within 5 min.....the only thing is that u don't see is those 5 min are not the same as the 5 min the dog has to hold the tree.....Also there is another dog still hunting and not treed (for 5 min dog A trees by himself)....Nobody goes 300 yards to a dog that is Treed till the 5 mins is up on the tree.

If he is at the tree when u get there and the tree is minus, dog B would get 75- on the tree, even though he is not treed in. He would have no strike if he was shutout but if he was struck before dog A treed he would be minus both ways

I'd love to draw you a few times. Your short fuse and temper would bring me laughter all night. You won't walk to any tree my dog isn't on untell your 5 is up, cause every step you take I'll be that dude in the back yelling, "hey judge could you stop for I can listen for my dog in there". When your 5 is up we can run to your tree, untell then, we'll give mine more time to get split somewhere deep. I know the game very well also.

*17. GENERAL INFORMATION:

When a dog is declared treed, Judge is not to let anyone go to the tree and start shining in less than five minutes, unless all dogs have been declared treed. This is a courtesy to other handlers and also to see that a dog will hold his tree. If at all possible, be at the tree within five (5) minutes. If handlers are so far from tree that it will take more than five minutes to get to tree, they are to start walking toward tree, but stopping all along to let other handlers see if their dog is treeing. Judge is not to let any
handler keep holding him away from tree just to let dog get to tree after five minutes are up. Dog must hold the tree for five minutes, unless all dogs in cast are declared treed. If one dog in cast, or one dog remaining in cast, dog must hold tree for five minutes. Dogs declared treed within hunting time, are eligible for scoring. When hunting time is up, cast can go directly to tree. Dogs at tree must be leashed. Judges are not to let hunters call dogs off a trail without counting those points minus. No encouragement or discouragement of any kind to dogs. Dog should not be minused tree points if he comes back a short distance to meet handler if dog goes back in and trees satisfactorily. Judge should be informed of such peculiarities before hunt. *No squalling nor any action deemed to be interfering with dog(s) to be done during the first seven minutes of shining time unless all dogs declared struck are at tree and leashed. Individual holding first tree controls shining of tree for first two minutes. *No scoring aids to be used other than light or mechanical squallers. Two spectators per handler will be allowed on all casts. Spectators may not shine tree. Handler’s dog(s) will be scratched for rule violations by their spectators. ALL HUNTERS, JUDGES, AND/OR GUIDES MUST BE DRAWN PUBLICLY FOR THEIR CAST. Owners having multiple entries will have dogs drawn to separate casts if possible.

You come up here to southern middle Tennessee and if your dog gets treed within 5 minutes of the cast very often, then your dog wont hunt near hard enough to eat my feed!! What if the cast is scoring a tree and another dog split trees through the country from that tree being scored? You gonna tell me that youre gonna be to the 2nd tree within 5 minutes? NO!! You still gotta stay and help score that 1st tree mister!
