I seem to remember something about Trackers being cell phone related and requireing a monthly bill to be paid but I may be wrong about that.

The only real problem with the Garmin is range and realisticly, I doubt there are many occasions when we need range exceeding a mile. Some probably do, most of us don't. Doubleing Garmins range won't sell if it costs twice as much. JMO

I need more range than a mile for winter hunting, Tige you should also knowing what your area is like. I really like the astro though, it takes all the guess work out. You know exactly what hollar your dog is, the elevation and it tells you exactly how to get to him (exactly). I made a comment the other nite that these gps systems are only breaking the surface of the ground. Imagin how technical these things can get in detail.
I been hunting off mules in some real big areas that range about 2000 feet in variation with the astro. Its hard to get signal tracking through a 1500 feet mt but when I get on top I pick up more than a mile. Like a buddy of mine stated " the beep beep beep of a tracker hurts my ears"
