How about allowing those of us who are crippled to compete in the veteran's cast? My knee has been broken and I will never be able to keep up with a normal cast again. I would be very unpopular if i tried to use rule #11 "Judge must maintain pace attainable by all members of cast" to enter the hunts again. If you can have a special cast for the over 55 group why not allow those of us a with a physical problem to hunt with them?

I've hunted with some who were in their 60s and 70s when I was MUCH younger. Some of these guys hunt almost every night & they are long-legged SUPERMEN! Just because they're over 55 doesn't make them feeble or SLOW. That's why I don't competition hunt anymore - too hard to keep up in the woods - especially when they're heading to the tree to score it. If you were to draw out with some of the "long of tooth" ones I've hunted with you'd think you were competing in the Olympics!

It's not a decision left totally up to me. It was on the ballot the rules committee before last and got shot down. I was kinda in favor of it actually and wrote the wordage for the proposal myself.

What do ya think....we need a division for restrictor plate hunters and non-restrictor plate hunters? lol

its not that anyone is over 50 right..... its that your knee was broken.

I say ya know the system use it be a judge.

I dont agree with the system giving out stimulus checks, (I work for a living and like it)....but I'll take advantage of it and cash em.

It will take me 30 minutes to go a quarter mile on a road. I know my dogs will stay treed, that is how I am killing coons now. Really though how many of you would want to draw me in a night hunt. We all only have two hours in the night hunt and the hunt time I would cost you would not be fair. If there can be a special cast for the over 55 class why not allow the handicapped to compete with the over 55 class. If you are over 55 and a marathon runner no rule says you HAVE to be on it.

You are assuming you wouldn't slow down an over 55 cast. Competition hunting is a very physical sport. I know plenty of former comp hunters, including myself, who are now just pleasure hunters because we can't meet the basic physical requirements of comp hunting. That is part of life. Hell, I can't play tennis anymore either.

That the cast has to move at the pace of the slowest member if the other cast members don'tlike it TUFF $H-- that is the rule. you pay your entry fee just like everyone else and you are entitled to hunt just like everyone else.

Time is everything in UKC nite hunts....the longer it takes to get to a tree and score it the less you have to hunt (obviously) and the less time you have to tree another coon....UKC is unlike PKC in that you compete for the highest score....PKC hunters compete against the dogs in the cast (and that too of other cast winners win tryin to advance to final 4s) but either way the point is competition hunters want the most amount of hunting time possible for their hound and be able to produce a higher score.

I experienced irritated cast members as well as polite ones during competition hunts when I slowed down progress to the trees. Quite frankly, I felt guilty for holding up the casts when the terrain was tough. And I personally feel that if I have a dog worthy of competition hunts then I should find a more physically capable handler for that dog because, as JiM mentioned - in UKC, casts are competing against OTHER casts for wins & it's frustrating for a cast's time to be jeopardized by a slow cast member. Yes, I know the rule - but I feel that common sense should determine an individual's decision to participate in competition hunts. The situation of a "handicapped" cast is a tough one because then there's the question of determining how to qualify for that category - how would that evaluation be made?

cast moves as fast as the slowest member, thats the luck of the draw !! some times you run some times you walk. maybe i should say some times they run. i aint runnin. i have drawed some people that cant keep up even with me & thats not hard to do but thats coon huntin. just gives you more time to get to know some one. i love competition hunting but i'm more of a pleasure hunter. clubs & hunters alike better be glad for every hunter that shows up & hunts !! some times you have to raine in the young guns a little. carry the card it makes it alot easyer for every body.
