AI versus natual breedings

Is there any difference in how many pups a female has due to the AI breeding or the natural breedings. Or apose to pups being different as to starting earlier or later just curious let me know what you all think on this subject.

It is not possible for abilty to be in any way determined by breeding method. That is just scientific fact. As for the size of the litters, my own experince shows absolutely no difference. I would never live breed if I had the opportunity to use AI.

Timing!

Hitting the female in her peak ovulation time is what determines the # of pups. AI the last 2 females and had 9 and 11 pups! no different that natural breeding! JMO!!

I'm really thinking of doing AI when my one female comes into heat. I just need to get in touch with a vet and figure things out.

I have had several females AI'd over the last 25 years, by different vets and even Dave Dean. The latest attempt was by a new "transservical AI". I have never got a single pup from any of the AI attempts-maybe just my luck.

I've AI'd a lot of dogs in my dog rearing lifetime and I have just as high success rate as a natural breeding, maybe better as I had a few gyp's that would rather eat the male then let him breed her. I use fresh semen which I collect and inseminate into the female right away. I have never used fresh extended, chilled or frozen, so I can't tell you what my rate would have been otherwise.

As for ability, that is in the gene's and has NOTHING to do with AI.

Doing your own AI is very simple. You need a dixie cup, 20 cc syringe and a piece of aquarium air line tubing about 6" long. Thats my whole set up right there and it does work!

LOL! I don't know if I could handle the expense of the technical equipment.....

I once got a mare in foal using a styrofoam cup instead of a fancy $300 semen transport container.
