Just my two cents worth

But I recently added some Rat blood to my own line of dogs because they are as natural a treeing stock of dogs since the great Johnson's Banjo.
I don't think it is slick treeing he was throwing as much as the gaminess and coon hating gene he put in them. A dog that is that gamey, can miss a smart coon who may cross over or "tap" a tree. I think this makes some hard, hard treeing dogs slick tree. I am sure there are some that just go through the woods treeing trees, but a lot of it is that these stock of dogs are so eager to tree that a lot of them get messed up by being trained wrong as opposed to them just being slick treeing idiots.

He has broken every numbers record from a titled dogs perspective that has ever been and he just beat his own daddy. There never has been nor will there ever be a father son combo throw as many champion hounds.
That's why I added both bloodlines. As many times as I can get it.
I've got Rat twice and Jr. 5 times in 4 generations on some current pups. I like what I have.

From what I have seen it takes different training methods to train different dogs or even lines of dogs. Some dogs like for instance the Rat dogs, you can't incourage a dog with that much tree bred into them as a young hound getting started. You go petting them up on trees and making them tree, that is what they know to tree. Guess what, that is what they will do and then when they get older and more mature they will get more tree happy. Seems like most dogs that have a lot of tree in them you don't have to get them to tree, they will do it on their own. More good dogs are messed up from lack of training and hunting or from just plain simple not knowing how. I'm as guilty as anyone and sometimes it helps to ask someone who hunts that line of dogs if you are not familiar with them. That saves some time in the timber.

Good ?

I own a dog out of him that has made me alot of great friends and memories. I always liked what he produced. He came from these WV hills as a young dog. I don't know how he treed, but the one I got out of him has always done a fine job.

I hunted one out of him and it was the most accurate dog I have ever seen. He was 10 months old also.

Slick tree

Iv never been much on the hard tree dogs, if they will tree consitantly enough for me to get to where they are then 75 to a hundred barks a Mn are ok with me, my beef with most hounds is what they do before they get to the tree. Nearly every well known stud dog that is a "Quote" treedog will Lie from time to time, they just cant help there selves, but how many can get there game to a tree the right way, thats the overpowering qestion to me, Just make me belive when you get there im supose to belive there is a coon in the tree. the only Rat dog i ever hunted with was very strait, but had a reputation for Backtracking, iv never seen it but thats what they said .
