I live in Greenville, PA and I can tell you that our hunting is about as good as it gets. The coon here average about 15-20 lbs. There's never been a night where I have gone out with experienced dogs (or even un-experienced ones) and havent at least struck a trail. I think you will be quite pleased with it here. Our season opens October 25th and runs till February 21st I believe.

Corey

I live about 45 minutes southeast of State College, but have many coonhunting buddies up there & hear the hunting is good. If you are moving up that way, left me know & I can hook you up with some fellow hunters. Your always welcome here for a hunt too. Have quite a few guys come to our club from up there too.

I work about 10 miles from State College, and live a bit farther away. There is all kinds of State land to hunt and a ton of farmland all around just loaded with coon this year.... you would not be dissapointed with the opurtunities here. Seems to be a good bit of work, depending on what you do. State College is getting pretty big, does not take long to be in the BOONIES tho'

LOL...your right. Mountains all around you & tons & tons of acres to hunt. Same as here in Beaver Springs. There is no way we could hunt all the land available to us in one night, let alone a week.

You'll enjoy the hunting and there is plenty of farm land as well as mountains in the area. I know of at least one club in the area. It's in Lamar.

Really nice area. It's called Happy Valley.

It's in the ridge and valley part of Pennsylvania. There are plenty of mountains with big woods. But between the mountains are some pretty wide valleys. In the valleys is lots and lots of agricultural land. You should have no problem finding hunting opportunities, regardless of species. Deer, turkey, bear, coon, bobcats, rabbit, etc. That area has it all.

The area around State College seems to be falling prey to urban sprawl just like many other areas of the country. But you can be out in sticks pretty easily.

I live here... it's awesome. I don't really have to drive more than 15 minutes if I want to hunt, and everything in town is really convenient... I graduated last December and am having a REALLY hard time leaving... heh.

Hey Bill
You forgot about the skunks & possums. Autumn didn't earn the name 'Miss smelly head' for nothing. IF I really wanted to, all I'd have to do is go out the back door, turn the dogs loose & they will find a coon within a few mintues. I have my favorite places though, within 5 mile from the house, nice walking, flat land & permission to hunt from mountain to mountain. I HATE greenbriar & multiflora rose, so I don't hunt in the places that have alot of that, still have tons of places to go, that doesn't have that crap & has coon.
