Old Men Should Know Better

Went to a show tonight and took my whole family pretty much. My mother and sister (who is 10 yrs. old) have never been to one. My mother has not had such a wonderful opinion of coon hunters as more than once she has had them on her land without permission, found a starving hound in her yard with no ID, and met more than one drunk hunter in the dark.

So after 4 years of my husband and I telling her that most hunters are nice normal people, she finally decides to go with us to a show. We weren't hunting tonight, and there was a local event with an early bench show so we all packed up and went together.

We're the first competitiors there. The man checking us in is a friend and we stopped to talk. First guy there is a younger man our age, who is also friendly. Things are going good. In walks a man my mothers age who does nothing more than look at her boobs and walk away starring occasionally.... goes down hill from there.

During the bench show my sister, my 3 yr. old daughter and I are sitting near a group of older men. My husband is showing our young 9 mo. old female while several younger men comment on how nice that dog is. One very loud old man begins cutting her down and talking about how none of them "purty ones" can do anything in the woods. The comments got worse from there, and louder. Mean while both of these kids are sitting here hearing every word, as well as everyone around us including my mother.

This man has a dog come up in a later class against a male dog that we brought. Our male dog is my daughters, and she is obviously VERY excited about her puppy. This man begins running his mouth before the dogs even get on the bench... cutting our dog down for everything from his color to the way he got on the bench. Our male won, despite all his numerous flaws that are being loudly pointed out.

They have a kids show where my daughter gets in with her father and the male who just one. My sister, who has never been around a hound in her life, is assisted by myself with my young female dog. While we had the dogs on the bench, this man was talking so loudly about "those girls" that we could hear him from the bench.

How dare a man, especially one old enough to know better, sit and de-grade my kids! I've heard trash talk about our dogs before, but come on... a 3 yr. old and 10 yr. old girl?! The others must have been used to this behavior as they simply smiled and made nice comments instead of feeding into his ego.

It wasn't all bad, my mother met one of our best friends who she had not met before. And my sister got her first trophy and came home talking about "next time." My daughter is to young to understand what was said. But still, the ONLY thing that kept my tongue silent was my child sitting in front of me with a smile on her face...

BTW~~~ If anyone doubts what these "purty" hounds can do, check out our website. We don't just keep pretty faces!

Smart A$$ in the crowd

Don't worry about people like this guy they are few and far between. Sometimes people get to carried away with their comments. just ignore them or better yet enter the next event and beat them again. The ones who act like this usally arn't packin nothing anyway.

I was smart enough not to tell my husband until after we left!

Had it been just me they were talking about I'm used to it. Husband's the same way. BUT, with two kids there watching me and my mother it wasn't the time or the place to do anything. Thankfully my mother didn't catch them talking about the kids. She was on the opposite side then watching my sister. Wouldn't have been good if she had heard, you want to talk about mad! And she carries too... legally.

I just hate it happened with them there for the first time.

Just needed the chance to vent... feel better already!

SORRY ABOUT YOUR BAD EXPERIENCE. YOU ARE RIGHT, I AM 43 AND I AM SOMETIMES EMBARRASSED AT THE ACTIONS AND LACK OF RESPECT AND SELF DISCIPLINE OF SOME OF THE PERVS I ENCOUNTER. IT ALL REFLECTS ON THE UPBRINGING. I WOULD OF SHUT HIM UP HAD I BEEN THERE. I PROMISE YOU THAT.

Hate to say it but that is where mom needs to take the kids to the house and you need to explaine to the a hole how the real world actually works. That would have had me ready to kill that man, talking about your kid and sister. Age 10 and 3. Wow, some people have nerve and he must have had some luck on his side to to keep from getting his head stomped!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Hope he never comes to one of our events and talks like that about my kids cause it will be my last UKC event.

such a shame someone would do something like that, espcially with kids there. I'm glad to hear your sister is looking forward to next time, hopefully she'll have a better experience next time.

I sure would have/would,let at least one club officer know. That kind of behavior is what kills our sport. There is a time and place for "a little" light hearted funning around(breed bashing and such) but not around the little ones and not just plain old being a mean spirited jerk!

Another thing now that my blood is boiling.I never can understand the dinks that will show up to the shows(that are usually hours before the hunts) and bad mouth the show dogs and people.Who cares if they don't hunt.I have not heard too many show people griping about some of the "ugly" hunting dogs(of which I own quite a few). And I am still waiting for a "show" person to show up wearing a PETA shirt.Ain't gonna happen! Most of them support the hunting aspect so what the He*& are they hurting showing dogs!

Yeah, my husband was showing and then stood up in front to watch the others. He didn't hear any of it, thankfully. My mother was a good distance away, and only heard parts of it when he got louder. We were sitting next to him, and there were probably 5 guys over there with him. What gets me is though the other men only said positive things or kept their mouths shut, they didn't say anything to him and even laughed and smiled at some of his comments.

There weren't many people there at all, maybe 10-15 watching total. Really disappointing as far as competition went...

I've seen this guy around several times. Usually trash talking, but then again so many do. Just didn't figure he'd do it in front of the kids and about them.
