We dropped all our sectionals a few years ago. Our club always held an English sectional and a Walker sectional. Although we didn't realize it at the time, our Walker sectional did okay. We drew some faces we don't typically draw unless we held a state event or something.
Our English sectional flopped over the years. For years our club majority hunted English dogs yet our last English sectional I believe had 3 English dogs. 1 was an inactive member we guilt tripped into showing up, 1 was a 70 year old member that never did much competition hunting but entered to support the breed & club. 1 might have been an outsider.
Then we had a couple bluetickers trying to convince us how they should get a sectional, instead our club voted to drop all breed sectionals. I don't see us going back to them anytime soon.
If the local folks who hunt that specific breed will not show up and support the sectionals then quit wasting your club's time and effort. Drop the sectional and just hold a regular UKC event. Chances are your entry numbers will not change.

I've not been to a lot of sectionals. Black and Tan sectionals seem to do well up in Illinois.

The Plott Ass'n only allows one sectional per state. People drive from all over to go to them. I think it would be better if the other associations would do this, but its their decision. The club that holds the Plott sectional for each state holds onto it until they want to get rid of it. The Milstadt club in IL has held the Plott sectional for almost 40 years, and they still put on a pretty good hunt. There are down sides to having only one sectional per state per year, but people plan to go to them as they are held about the same weekend every year.

With the way the gas and economy if going, I think they would be better off to slim down big hunts. I think people are going to save their money, and go to one hunt a year. Our dog count was higher this year at Plott days than last year.

Hope you get better turnouts in your regular hunts. Little clubs are hurting right now, and the gas prices aren't helping. Most of them were getting down before it cost an arm and a leg to get to and from a hunt.
