All the way to the tree hopefully...lolol

No but really I think it all depends on your dog. I have seen dogs take a ten minute old track and beat it to death like it ran last night.... and I have seen dogs take an old track and run it like they were looking at it.

I guess what I'm asking is, if you release a coon, how long should you wait to let a pup on it? Is it minutes or hours? I know tracks stay hot longer in moisture, but on dry dry ground, just wondering.

Minutes. I would say 5 at the most. It will help if you can have someone waiting in the woods to chase the coon up a tree so you know where he is at. Then when the pup gets close or starts smelling the tree get on him and encourage him. IT will help build his confidence the first time to two.

Just from personal experience, don't let the coon go in the woods you caught it in or 9/10 it will go in a hole.

O, thanks Briar. I guess I wasted a coon. I waited 2 hours. Prolly get another one in a couple of days. City folk trap um and call. I pick up and release on our happy hunting grounds. I'm new at this training stuff.
