Just get some ear cleaner from the vet or pet store an use cotton balls to clean them out.I do mine once a month and do not have problems with their ears.

go to your local drug store (pharmacy) and pick up some sweet oil. and put some it the ears. i know that this works! it works for traveller and she gets ear mites all the time!

Get yourself some Ear-Rite. It's a solution that will clean and kill mites and is easy to use. A bottle of the stuff will run you around $10 - $12 and will last more than a dog or two.

Get a jar of nu-stock and put it liberally on finger and go deep but gently into canal......it will really kill any mites and then after two to three days.....go in with some warm water and cotton balls and clean it all out.

The nu stock will kill any mites and will help clean out all wax and dirt.

16 oz. bottle isopropyl alcohol (or witch hazel)
4 tablespoons Boric Acid Powder
16 drops Gentian Violet 1% Solution

Mix all ingredients in the alcohol bottle & shake. (make sure you shake before every application).

Treatment: Fill ear with solution & massage gently for 30 seconds and wipe with a tissue. Fill a second time and just wipe without massaging. The dog will shake the excess out. Be careful, the Gentian Violet could stain. I use a eye dropper to fill the ear.

Treatment:
2 times per day for the first 2 weeks
1 time per day for the next 2 weeks
1 time per month thereafter

If you are concerned about the alcohol burning the inside of the ear (it could if the dog has been scratching its ear), then you can substitute the alcohol with witch hazel.

All ingredients are available at a pharmacy. The Boric Acid is usually in the First Aid section where you find the alcohol. The Gentian Violet will be the hardest to find and may need to be special ordered.

The Purple ear cleaner... CHEAP, do it your self, HARMLESS even with alcohol and a sensitive dog. BUT IT STAINS! Do NOT wear good clothes...and it will stain the white washer or dryer... forever if you spill it on there... trust me, I KNOW!
We were able to get he gentian violet at the WalMart pharmacy.

The purple ear stuff can also be used on humans, on cuts, etc... we use it as a disinfectant on cuts scrapes etc...
We used this FOR ear infections on one dog we had from rescue with a VERY bad ear problem and it cleared it up well without hurting and then kept the ears clean. She had a disease that gave her open sores in her ears and on her gums- that purple stuff helped with both until her sickness killed her... it saved us Tons of money to make it ourselves. I would have thought it would sting those nasty sores...and I DID use it first on myself on a scrape to be sure it wouldn't cause...Honestly I didn't want to get BIT...
