Anyone else ever have this problem?

Just curious if anyone else has had someone (who you don't know) try to pet your hounds while they were in the dog box? On the way home the other night from hunting I stopped at a local gas station for something to drink, I come out and there is a guy at the back of my truck, holding his hand and looking in at my hounds. As I walk up and question is mental capacity he says " your dog tried to bite me." I said yep stick your hand in there again and I bet she gets you this time. Now this dog has never growled at anyone of acted mean except when she is in the dog box, but I guess if i was cornered and someone I didn't know stuck thier hand in there i would try to bite them too. This happened again yesterday at the local hardware store, a lady tried it this time but i caught her before she tried to "pet" her. I was thinking about maybe putting a sticker that read "beware of dog" or something on the dog box but I am not sure it would help. Perhaps I shouldn't stop anywhere when I have the hounds with me.

Just wondering if anyone else has had this problem?

What's gonna happen when the dog is successfull and actually bites someone? Yes, i won't go into the gorry details but lets just say I've dealt with this before. You better think about the consequences of your dog's possessiveness over the dog box. REALLY think about it.

I wouldn't think about it for one instant any more than I would think about it if someone was sticking there hand threw the window to touch my child. My reaction would be the same.

It takes some nerve to walk up to a stranger's truck and try and pet a dog in a box.

There are some knuckleheads out there, that is for sure.

I have never had this happen to me, but my tailgate hides my dogs from view. The other thing to watch is when your dogs are in the kennel. It seems the first place any little kid wants to go on my place is straight to the kennels.

Your dog bites someone out of the dogbox here and good chance your dog will be destroyed.. They don't care that your dog was in your truck, in your box and someone had to stick their hand in to pet them..

My dogs are not allowed to be growly in the dogbox.. Course my dogs aren't allowed to be growly towards people in general.. BUT anyone tries to touch one of my dogs' is going to get their @ss chewed at the very least.. I know I finally got all the gas station attendents broke of giving them dog cookies

i know it's a big mistake to stick your hand in someone else's dog box. Also, chances are everyone that deals with dogs very much knows this too. However, a lot of people don't. I'm not trying to be hatefull, i really ain't. I care and I know how much of a disaster this type thing can turn into.

SIMPLE AND EASY TO FIX. EASY TO PREVENT A CATASTROPHE IN THE MAKING.

MUZZLE HER WHILE SHE'S IN THE DOG BOX. SHE GOES IN, MUZZLE GOES ON. SHE COMES OUT, MUZZLE COMES OFF.

SIMPLE, AND NO ONE GETS BIT.

IF NOT, PUT A SIGN ON THE DOG BOX THAT SAYS, PLEASE DONT PET DOG IN BOX.

Thanks for eveyones advise. Smokey7 I didn't take it as hateful and that is the reason I asked the question was to see if anyone else had the problem and what they did to correct it -- last thing I want to see happen is my dog injuring someone. Like I said before this dog isn't mean at all until she is cornered in that box by a stranger that tries to stick thier hand in there, my kids play with my dogs on a daily basis and if i thought for one half of a second they were in danger with this dog she wouldn't live here anymore.

Thanks again

vicious dog clause

I had a problem with a catahoula I used to haul everywhere with me...he would not let anyone get near the truck...I put a sticker on my toolbox "Beware of Dog"...had a lady approach me one day that said she raises rottweilers...she used to keep those signs up, and one day one of her dogs bit someone...she lost her a$$ on it...at least in oklahoma there was a vicious dog clause, stating that if you have a dog that will bite, you should not have it where anyoen can get to it...at least on private property, put up "No Trespassing" and if someone gets bit then, you are not liable...that is at least what she told me....might check into it...maybe try a "Private Property" sign on dogbox?

I think anyone that approaches any vehicle w/a dog in it and tried to pet it is stupid. Dogs are territorial, everyone knows that. You don't go knocking on a neighbors door and pet the dog that's growlig on the other side do you? I don't have that problem w/our dogs but I know people that do. I never go up to any dogs in a dog box and try to pet them. If I'm standing there talking to a guy and he says that it's ok, then I will, but I'm not going to take it upon myself to try to pet them and chance anything.

I'm with Jim on this one

Keep your hands off my dogs and my kids too, the dogs in my box are private property, the dog box is private property, and the truck that it is sitting in is also as far as I'm concerned. I have owned 2 dogs that would eat up a stranger trying to touch them in the box, I never once tried to break them from it. As a matter of fact, both of them would bite a stranger on the tree as well if that person grabbed hold of them. Neither one of these dogs was the least bit ill toward other dogs, they just didn't like strangers. Come to think of it, how would you react if you were in your house and a stranger tried to reach in and grab you? As far as the kids go, well, you'd be better off tackling the dogs, lol.

if you put a beware of dog sign up, you are admitting you have an aggessive dog & anybody gets bit you'v had it !! is it worth it to have this problem, soppose a small child see's your dog in the box & you know kids, he sticks his hand in there !! i have owned dogs like this before but never again !! i owned a dog one time i could not even get him out of the box with a crowd of people around. he's not with us any more he's in the big bone yard in the sky !!

Hey Jim

Remember Jasper and Eclipse? Not a bad, mean bone in either of them but would you want to reach in the box and try to get either one of them out? Not all dogs are like ole Ike, that bird was an exception to the rule, heck he didn't even like YOU when there was a crowd there. If either one of mine had been like that they wouldn't have been around long either, but I could handle mine just fine. No one else could, but hey, they weren't feeding them, I was, and I just didn't see that as a problem with the dog thieves that we had around here at the time.

Dental problem

I know how to stop the biting, It's simple have all their teeth pulled.

You know like people do to keep them from chewing at the tree, now I'm not a genius but sounds like a dental problem to me.

I'm with those who say the "beware of dog" just opens you up to liability. How about "Working Dog - DO NOT PET" instead?

I don't want JQP touching my dogs without my say-so under any circumstances! The AR people are too crazy and they are everywhere, not to mention dog thefts are on the rise, and most of my dogs will go with anyone who has a treat.

i dont care what people say.....if you have a dog that is a dandy and is "theft proof" more power to them....my blue femail WILL not let a stranger take her out of the box or off of her dog house..but a stranger can puller her off the tree with no problem...lets say someone puts there hand inside the cab of my truck and accdentley hit the trigger on my coniced weapon and gets shot is it the guns fault??? for you people that say you wouldent own a dog like this what would you do if the dog is growley in the dog box at strangers, put a bullet in its head and call it good? but what if the dogs has 4 wins twards grand, is a show champion, points in the feild trial and water race....if your not comp hunter what if the dog is a GOOD OL COON DOG, one that you would never heasate to turn loose with anyone?? one that has put more fur on your tail gait than you can count...would you still shoot or get rid of this dog cuz it gets owlie with some fricken idiot that stuck his hand in your dog box?

If people are ignorant enough to stick their hands in a box, cage, etc., where an animal is that they know nothing about, they deserve to get bit!
