Bench Show Question??

What are the rules for entry into a UKC Bench Show?

According to the UKC site, "puppy" class is 6 months-1 year. It does not say anything about having to participate in the hunt in order to show (except to qualifly for "Total Dog" points).

However, a friend of mine and member of this board was planning on showing his 6 month old pup for the first time this weekend......but was told that he couldn't show unless he entered the hunt....or had 50 Hunt points. Apparently it's a new rule for 2008??

Can anyone shed some light on this? Possibly Todd M?

Thanks in advance,

JC

THE PAPERS REQUIRED FOR BENCH SHOWS
All owners or handlers wishing to enter a Beagle Bench Show, must meet one of the following requirements in addition to meeting proof-of-registration requirements.
1. The dog must have 50 championship points from the hunt portion of a previous UKC Licensed Hunting Beagle Event.
2. The dog must have been entered in, and completed the full 120 minutes or the designated first round cast time in an Elimination Event in the hunt portion of the UKC Licensed Hunting Beagle Event the day of the show or be scratched by the Judge. Dogs withdrawn by handler or scratched in accordance with rule 6 (b) or any action deemed to be an intentional scratch are not eligible to be shown that day.
It will be the club’s responsibility, as part of their entry procedure, to see that the above requirements are met. Championship points receipts may be re-quired by the club as proof before entry is accepted.

YES,A DOG MUST HUNT THE FULL 120 MIN OR HAVE 50 CHAMPIONSHIP POINTS.IT IS IN THE RULE BOOK.AND ITS NOT A NEW RULE.I'VE BEEN IN TRIALING FOR 4 YEARS NOW AND ITS ALWAYS BEEN THIS WAY.IF YOUR SHOWING FOR THE TOP TEN YOU MUST HUNT THE FULL 120 MIN NO MATTER HOW MANY CHAMPIONSHIP POINTS YOU HAVE,OR YOU WILL NOT RECIEVE ANY POINTS TOWARD TOTAL DOG.HOPE THIS HELPS

Hey I don't want to stir anything up but the rules haven't always been that way in the rule book. (Please don't take this out of context in anyway)

In the past all the dogs had to finish the hunt portion without being withdrawed by the handler or scratched for not hunting in order to be shown.

Currently, a hound possessing 50 or more hunt points can show without being hunted on that day. This rule is the rule which came out just a few years back. This particular 50 points in the field rule has only been in effect for about 5-6 years.

As of a scenario which occurred this past year, dogs can not attain the Best of Breed points (Total Dog Points) for that day if the dog being shown has not participated in the hunt portion on that day, thus making it fair to all who are chasing the Total Dog Race. After all a dog must hunt first, to even be considered for the Total Dog.

However I believe you are correct about the rest of the rule info as stated.

Happy Beagling Guys and Gals,
Fred

Hey Fred what i meant was its always been like this since my 4 years of trialing, not forever.Sorry bout the way i posted that.I know when i first started trialing you had to hunt the full120 min or have 50 points to show.I know you can still show by just having 50 points but like you said you cant show for B.O.B and recieve total dog points.
