Hey I don't want to stir anything up but the rules haven't always been that way in the rule book. (Please don't take this out of context in anyway)
In the past all the dogs had to finish the hunt portion without being withdrawed by the handler or scratched for not hunting in order to be shown.
Currently, a hound possessing 50 or more hunt points can show without being hunted on that day. This rule is the rule which came out just a few years back. This particular 50 points in the field rule has only been in effect for about 5-6 years.
As of a scenario which occurred this past year, dogs can not attain the Best of Breed points (Total Dog Points) for that day if the dog being shown has not participated in the hunt portion on that day, thus making it fair to all who are chasing the Total Dog Race. After all a dog must hunt first, to even be considered for the Total Dog.
However I believe you are correct about the rest of the rule info as stated.
Happy Beagling Guys and Gals,
Fred
