JULY 4th WHY?

Why do we call the holiday July 4th instead of by its name (Independence Day.) We don't call Christmas Dec 25th or others by the date. I was ask this question the other day and I didn't have an answer. Does anybody know when and how this got started? I know that there is a wealth of knowledge on this board so I am confident someone will have the answer.

Actually,Independence day is on July2nd. That is the actual day that the Declaration was signed by the first 2-3 founding fathers. A year later on July 3rd the Congress made July 4th the actual date set aside in remembrance of the historic event because they basically forgot about it. Thus it was always called "The 4th of July".

It also did not become a national holiday until 1941
