Split Tree Close Together

Two dogs treed and split 20 yards apart and certainly not touching. How should the shine time be ran? First dog treed gets 10 minutes shine time with squalling going on for the ten minutes. Handler of the dog on the second tree hoping that his coon doesn't come out. What is right, do you shine for 10 minutes on the first tree and then for 10 on the second? I guess the rules support using 20 minutes of hunt time to shine and the man leading the cast hopes time is all used. It certainly isn't right that the second dog treed on the split is at a disadvantage that his coon may leave.

What is UKC's official ruling on running shine time together on trees that are real close together?

I would want my 10 if it was my dog and I`d get it or we`d be putting a ? mark on the card. If while squawling the first tree the coon comes out of the second tree than that tree is easy to score, plus it coon seen!

if

IF ITS DETERMINED THAT THE TREE IS AN OBVIOUS SPLIT AND NOT 1 TREE, THE THE FIRST DOG TREED GETS HIS 10 MINS OR UNTIL SATISFIED, THEN YOU SHINE THE SECOND TREE, OR THATS WHAT THE RULES STATE.

the squallin rule is if there are dogs still on track... after 7 minutes of shine time used........you can squal..........due to how close the trees were in my above post..... we only blew squallers softly......all in agreement.... tho we did not bring any plus points back in...... very enjoyable group.......all shined each others trees...great group of gentleman......

You shine the tree of the first dog treed for the entire 10, or less if desired by handler. Then score the second tree the same way and then the third. You can squall as soon as the time starts if all dogs are declared treed. I have been in these situations before and sometimes they can take up a lot of your hunt time....but that is how it works.

Brock pretty much covered it with his response which is right in line with the official answer from UKC.

Thanks for the official word.

Rules can work for some and against others.

We all have been out there with guys that would blow the guts out of their squaller if they thought they could make the other hounds coon jump out. It would be so hard to regulate any other way.

turman I don't believe you can plus the coon in the second tree if it came out shining the first tree. the scoring time isn't being ran on that tree there for it can't be scored. believe its one of those bad break situations.
