hey iv had dogs for years and have used dozens of brands of tick medicine , id like to know what you guys recomend , cause iv had bad luck with it

last year my boxer who runs loose on the farm was covered with them, I mean covered I put FRONTLINE PLUS on him and within a couple days they all fell off I was convinced now I buy it from Australia from Pet Shed at half the cost that we pay here in the states

i use bayer tree and shrub insect killer 19.95 a quart at lowes and it will treat 950 dogs. use 1/2 cc on base of tail and 1/2 cc between shoulder blades right now and your problems are solved for the rest of the year.

the ingredient imidacloprid is the same thing they use to make advantage flea and tick with plus it will cost u pennies a year for several dogs .

another added bonus if the quart bottle is kept in the right environment it will last a lifetime fox hound men and other old timers have used this chemical for years before it hit the market for animals

its known as ADMIRE to farmers they use it for tobacco crops

The best stuff I have found is Cutter Plus. It is just like Frontline but better and a whole lot cheaper. $5 or $6 for a 3 month supply for 1 dog. I put it on mine and I love it.

I buy a cattle tag at the local vet, 1.25 a piece, they are bayer brand, white tags that I cut in half and ziptie to the underside of their collars...words wonders...

I bought a bottle of this stuff. It's a concentrate, do I need to delute it before I put it on my hounds or use it straight from the bottle? How often do dogs need treated ? monthly? bi-monthly?

I had a dog in a training pen in VA a couple summers ago and he was literally covered in ticks after one day there. Used Frontline Spray and the next evening all that was on him was scabs from where the ticks were. Made a believer out of me.

alot of people get nervous when i bring this topic up but i have been involved in greyhounds, coonhounds, beagles, bird dogs ive even had a few squirrel hounds and i know a chemicals very well

i use this on my house dog and i can assure you when i say this Bill Gates couldn't afford her

imidacloprid at least has recognition via advantage for use in dogs


this chemical was first used by the fox houndsmen and it was a closely guarded secret for years

i have 100's of greyhound farmers and trainers using it also i hear some race track kennels now use it

Thanks for the responce. I'm giving it a try. Should be a great asset to anyones kennel if it works that well. How old should a dog be before you use it on them? Pups?

i never use it on pups under 3 mos old even with my strong stance on this product . I have reservations on its use in pups this young do to immune system and other systemic functions

you talked about two different items here.....the frontline spray and the bayer tree and shrub insect killer. When you are talking about having your pups in the starting pen and then using one of the two, which item were you talking about? (the frontline or the tree and insect killer). I am having a problem with keeping the ticks off of my dogs, and I am using Hartz spray, just the old cheap stuff from wal-mart. It worked really well last year on the dogs, but for some reason or another, it's not working nearly as well (probably due to the number of ticks this season). I have also checked the price on the frontline spray on several websites.....$29.95 is as cheap as i can find for the 250 ml bottle.

Use Advantage monthly to kill fleas within minutes. The active ingredient is imidacloprid, which acts on the nervous system of the flea to cause paralysis and subsequent death. Here in Missouri we have had a bad tick problem for the last 5 years. I have tried the Bayer product you suggested and have ran my hounds 4 times and the ticks are moving pretty slow as i am loading the dogs up to come to the house. It has worked perfect so far--I haven't seen any skin reactions are adverse affects either. The fleas were out of control prior to the ticks a few years ago. Are the hounds absorbing this systemically or is it staying as a topical treatment? I considered not runnin this summer until now.

science has shown that Imidacloprid bonds with hair follicles systemically with a half life of six months

all this and its costing you less then half a penny per dog glad i found another happy user the costs we face in day to day life now i like any savings i can get
