How are the fuel prices hurting the Nite Hunts?

I put $75 of regular unleaded in my company van today, at $3.45 a gallon, and didn't even fill it up. That's outragous! It makes me stop and think about how bad do I want to go hunting tonight. Then it made me wonder how the fuel prices must be hunting the Nite Hunts and bench shows. In UKC, AKC and PKC.

How about you? Are the fuel prices keeping you from making the hunts and shows? We can't all be lucky enough to have a clubs in our towns, some folks have to make long drives to compete. So, do you spend $100 on fuel and go compete, or do you just go pleasure hunting? Or even worse - just sit at home?

fuel prices here are 3 69. and are suppost to be &5.00 moral day. that will slow most working men down going to the hunts

YEP. YOU ARE CORRECT. WE ARE THE WORKING PEOPLE AND COON HUNTING IS SOON BECOMING A HOBBY WE JUST CANNOT AFFORD TO DO.

LAST WEEKEND, WE DROVE TO A HUNT.

PAID $20 ENTRY FEE.

PUT $45 IN GAS.

ATE SUPPER $12.

SPENT ROUGHLY $8 FOR SNACKS/DRINKS FOR THE HUNT

RIGHT THERE, IN ONE NIGHT'S HUNT IS $85 WE SPENT.

EVERYTIME THE GAS PRICES GO UP, SO DOES THE VALUE OF A GRNTCH. BECAUSE ANYONE THAT HAS TO GO TO MORE THAN 8 HUNTS TO FINISH A DOG OUT IS SPENDING A TRUCKLOAD NOW ADAYS.

YOU KNOW WHAT IS REALLY RIDICULOUS? THE FACT THAT IT COSTS MORE TO FILL UP YOUR VEHICLE TO DRIVE 3 DAYS THAN IT DOES TO EAT OUT DURING DINNER EVERY DAY OF THE WEEK. AND I'M NOT TALKING GRABBING A BURGER AT MCDONALD'S. I'M TALKING BOGARTS, RYAN'S, CULLOWHEE CAFE, NICE PLACES TO EAT.

THAT IS RIDICULOUS.

That will change soon too Christy...and not in the good way by gas prices falling. But a lot of the cost of food production and shipping, etc is gonna start getting passed on to the consumer soon. Unfortunately....

Things look pretty bleak....

Almost any hunt you go to regardless of which registry it might be most folks are looking at dropping $100 a crack. There are a few exceptions but even the nearby local hunts you're probably going to drop $50.
With that, I think more hunters are looking for a return for they're efforts. More will choose attending a money hunt whether its AKC or PKC over a typical UKC hunt unless of course you're hunting a Performance pup in UKC.
IMO UKC's Performance Program probably saved the standard UKC event.
I'd like to think the quality of dogs would improve at all the events also since common sense would say you're going to lose money dragging some #$%!eater to the hunts. I have attended a couple local hunts and heard guys say they wanted to go hunt at (wherever) but they just couldn't justify spending a $100, especially when they're dog just wasn't clicking at the time.
So far this spring though I haven't seen it effect the turnouts yet.

As much as us Anmericans must gripe about these things, the fact is that it is bred right into us to have our fun no matter what the cost. That is why you see so many $30,000.00 bass boats parked outside $10,000.00 mobile homes. Look at the draw at Walker Days last weekend. Record number of entries. Our club is drawing more dogs this year than ever.

I think the Walker Association is glad walker days were last weekend. at over/average $3.50 a gallon people are going to start staying home....................no matter what registry you prefer to hunt.

Our first hunt this year was record in terms of attendence.

The next hunt was about like its been the last couple years.

Who knows how the rest of the year will go.

I'll tell ya one thing though, were not going anywhere this year.No Oaks, no English days, not even going to try and qualify for the World let alone make a run at it. Im just not willing to drive those distances with gas prices though the roof and raising every week. Most of those hunts are 500-700 miles from me EVERY YEAR. This year they can have them.

There are 3 clubs within 50 miles of me, and I will be hunting at some of the hunts at 2 of them. Other than that, Im retired from Comp hunting unless or until gas prices come back down.

Did anyone compare the number of entries from the Spring Classic to last years numbers?? Wasnt it about half the turn out this year as last year??

I know gas prices affect the competition hunts around here. at over $3.70 a gallon and rising every week you can bet the numbers are going to be down just give it some time to cycle while the gas keeps rising.

I don't know if this qualifies me as one of those high priced handlers or not, but I handled my brother's dog at the hunt in Lakeview Michigan this weekend.

$20 for the entry, $10 for grub and pop, $25 for gas (I figure this is what I used). He filled up that tank, but the guage barely moved off from Full. probably put 90 miles on his truck.

We have quite a few clubs within an hour or so from the house, so we are probably going to make more trips to the locals this year than I have in 15 years or so. Coonhunting is my only hobby. If it gets too expensive, I'll go buy something that is better on gas.

We really need to quit whining about the price of Gas. Unless you are Iraq, Saudi Arabia, or Venezuela, you are paying a ton no matter where you live. We are all in the same boat. Leash em up and go hunting, stop all the griping.

My wifes been complaining about how the cost of grocerys has gone up. I think we're just starting to see transportation costs starting to kick in. Diesel fuel has been over $4 a gallon for a while now and every thing you can think of INCLUDING GAS moves by diesel at some point. Giving the big rigs and farm equipment a break on fuel would help some if you could keep somebody in the middle from bleeding off the savings.

we were thinking.....

If we uncap all the pipe lines in texas, oklahome, alaska, and the one we just found (i think it was running through canada but dont quote me) then we woud be able to get fuel from the US and not have to buy it from other places, we are killing our selves because we have all the oil we need we just need to use it!!!
