Meijer's stores are sponsoring a pet photo contest in which they offer to donate $1.00 to HSUS for every entry. You can read about it at: http://www.meijer.com/content/conte...t_photo_contest

If you're a dog owner, a hunter, a fisherman or a farmer who shops at Meijer's, you need to let them know that you will take your business elsewhere if they donate to HSUS. Be sure to speak to the store manager.

If you're a member of a club or an association that represents dog owners or hunters, ask your organization to write Meijer's and voice your strong objections.

I'll write my letter today on behalf of 30 Michigan Coonhound Clubs but also encourage of of you to write a letter also.

I sent an email to the VP of Meijer, Inc. This is what I wrote:

Word is going around the United Kennel Club to boycott your company. HSUS is the main anti-hunting group in the country and UKC is made up of thousands of hunting dog enthusiasts. HSUS moves millions of it's money to the anti-hunting movement. I am sure that word will be passed shortly to all the dog and hunting sport associations before it is over with. I kindly ask you to reconsider your donation to the Humane Society.

I am very sorry that Meijer has decided to throw its hat in the ring with the Humane Society of the United States. I have done business with Meijer for nearly all of my adult life. I grew up in Greenville. Meijer was it for years until Walmart came into town. I tried Walmart, then the fad wore off and I found that your store was superior. It still is. The quality of food and products is great, and I could not be more pleased.

I am ashamed that a fine establishment such as Meijer would stoop to supporting a group that has made a goal out of stopping legal hunting in our Great State as well as many others. I along with many others in my area, will no longer patronize your Stores if you do in fact follow through with your decision. Meijer was one of those places you thought would always be the same. 1cent pony rides, you're next in line....

I guess not.

Please reconsider.
