Dogs being stolen.

seems like alot of hounds are getting stolen, is there any good way to stop a dog from being taken out of the kennel. a person could lock the gate and take precautions to keep it from happening but if someone wants the dog bad enough they are going to get it.

what are some things that could be done to help make it easyer to find a dog that has been stolen?

thanks nate

have a micro chip put in your dogs. they can track that dog any where.

A microchip only works if the dog is scanned...

I like the deer camera idea... My dog's kennels are in a fenced acre yard... We have a red heeler running loose in the yard and my boyfriend is mentioning bringing home a blue-nosed pit pup.. I don't think many people would be brave enough to set foot in there.. My heeler scares most people as it is..

We also spent some money and bought a freezebrand.. We done it ourselves and every one of our dogs now has our big OWH brand on their side... They are still healing.. but you can for sure tell they are branded.. It is going to be big and visible and no way to hide it...

It's not the Lanesboro dealer, this ones from Decorah but he has ties with the Lanesboro one. Talk to Blaise the Preston cop sometime and ask him about his dealings with the guy from Lanesboro. The guy from Decorah might not be a thief but he does seem to move alot of dogs and that makes a person very suspicious.

Thanks for the tip. I bet Osage will have a few dogs that were obtained "suspiciously". If I were missing a dog in the upper midwest, I'd go to Osage just to keep an eye open.

Its sad that dogs getting stolen are usually someones prized dog and family pet. I know where there are a couple dogs that could be stolen and they're owners would be happy. It seems the worthless ones never get stolen.

Once again, the high fur prices will drive up a bit of demand in dogs for all the "sportsmen".

Be nice sometime if they make a gps chip for a dog. There would be a charge every month like onstar on a vehicle. Im sure but would be worth it.

caught a fella about 10 yrs ago half way to my kennels. I have a flood light on back of my garage and and he knew he was busted when it came on. The double barrel shot gun I had also stopped him cold. I got his plate number(Kentucky) and told him if I ever saw him or his truck again it wasn't going to be good! It was a early 70's C100 chevy light blue in color if I remember right! All that was out there then was blue dogs!

The sad fact is that these theives stealing all these dogs are COONHUNTERS. They more than likely compete against you guys at competition hunts (and lie everytime they talk), sell puppies, breed popular stud dogs, advertise in the magazines, and preach on sunday mornings. Just a " good ole boy "

The higher coon hides are the more hounds become stolen. A thief gets to the tree before you and takes the best treedog their. You never know what's taken place until you find your tracking collar a few hundred yards from the tree.
