Guys I have never trained a dog to stand on the bench. At what age and what is the best way?

It is never to early to start - my last puppies were standing on the bench at a few months old.

I always start my pups early on the bench... i dont over work them when they are young, just get them use too being on the bench.

Around 5 months is when i will start training them too stand.

I generally start my pups on the bench when they are about 6 weeks old or so. First they only get petted, touched all over, maybe brushed a bit. When I start working them I place the front feet only, continue with the petting, praising, etc. They learn real fast that the bench is fun. I slowly work in setting the back feet. By the time they are about 5 months or so they are used to standing. The secret is going slow so they do not develop a fear. The last litter I had, I folded the bench up flat and let them play. They would go up and stand on it like king of the hill.

some are naturals at stacking; some won't hold still for years. You don't want to push any pup too hard. Most want to lturn their head and ook at you for quite awhile at the beginning. I leave positioning the head until last...

Edge up the length of time you make the wiggly ones hold still slowly.

Be careful to keep the bench in a place where it is well balanced--nothing makes them more nervous than knocking a bench over at the beginning.

Start away from distractions.
