You can thank ethanol for that. There wont be a livestock farmer left in the US or canada if something dont change. My customers are getting out of business at a high rate.

News Flash

The US Agriculteral Board.Says that 77% of US farmeras that grew Corn. Are now planting soy bean.Do to the fact that corn is now mainly used as a filler feed with no real nutrient value. So thus soy bean is being planted more becuse of its nutrient value.

$4.00 a bushel wow someone needs to check the markets cus im a farmer and i no that corn is right around $5.30 a bushel at market value. just a little heads up if you think its gunna go down soon kinda like gas dont count on it. and it also is not because of ethanol. all imports on grains were low last year due to bad yeilds in south america. and for $13-$14 per bushel on soybeans then figure in cost to produce ...planting soybeans is the better option. it takes almost twice as much furtilizer to grow corn as it dose soybeans.

Have you priced fuel, seed, fertilizer, and machinery parts lately? Not to mention cash rent. He has to borrow twice as much money to put in a crop, therefore he will pay twice as much interest. A farmer will not make any more money at $5 a bushel than he did a couple years ago at 2.50.

I tell ya.. we feel the pain of the corn prices in this household.. We bought a Corn stove to heat the house 4 years ago.. Bought corn direct from the farmer.. 1st year 1.25 a bushel, 2nd year 1.60 per bushel, 3rd year $2.48 a bushel.. and this past year was $4.28 per bushel... So next year.. we are going back to LP.. it would have been cheaper to burn LP this year then the corn.. and the farmer is no better off now then the past 3 years.. Because its costing more to grow the corn.. I dont know of any farmers planting corn in my area this year.. everyones jumping on the Wheat and Soybean crops... cheaper to grow... and better prices!!

Susie

This is my second year of burning corn. Don't really have the out of pocket expense of the corn since I grow it. I know that if what I burned, was sold, it would make a difference. When I first thought about corn, I didn't really do it to 'save' money. It was my way to rebel against petroleum prices. 3 years ago, when LP was a buck twenty, I spent 1200 dollars. Last year, when it was a buck sixty, I spent 300 on LP and burned maybe 200 bushels. This year, I have went through about 400 in LP(1.95 a gallon) and have burned around 200 bushel. I feel it is working for me, but then I don't have to go to the elevator and buy it retail.

Farmers are making money, huh? I just got my fertilizer bill yesterday for my hay ground. Seventy, yes, I said $70 an acre. And that was only 175 lb. and 5 lb. red clover. I cringe to think what the next bill is going to be for my fertilizer, oats, and alfalfa on my new seeding. I sure am glad we are doing better. lol
