female in heat

its her first time, she has been in for quite some time... now the question i have is.. her swelling is gone, but yet she is still bleeding, REALLY bad... like it just squirts out like a deep cut, you know how it just spurts.. sorry to go into such detail but its disgusting and i don't know whats wrong!! lol can anyone tell me if this has ever happened to a female you've owned before?? Thank you!!

USUALLY, WHAT WE HAVE FOUND, IS A FEMALES HEAT CYCLE HAS 3 PARTS.

COMING IN---SWELLING AND BLEEDING--- ANYWHERE FROM 2-10 DAYS

IN---VERY SWOLLEN, LITTLE TO NO BLOOD, OR PINKISH DISCHARGE--ANYWHERE FROM THE 5-20 DAY, DEPENDS ON THE FEMALE, NO TWO FEMALES CYCLE ALIKE. SOME WILL BLEED FOR A DAY OR 2 AND THEN BE READY TO BREED AND ONLY BREED FOR A COUPLE OF DAYS AND THEN COME OUT, SOME WILL BE TEXT BOOK, 7 COMING IN, 7 IN, 7 GOING OUT, SOME WILL BLEED FOR 2 WEEKS BE IN FOR A COUPLE DAYS, AND THEN BE OUT IN NO TIME.

COMING OUT--SWELLING IS GOING DOWN/GONE AND THEY WILL NO LONGER ALLOW THE MALE TO MOUNT OR ATTEMPT TO MOUNT.

WE LIKE TO CATCH FEMALES WHILE THEY ARE STILL BLEEDING RED, BECAUSE 95% OF THE TIME, IF THEY ARE STILL BLEEDING RED, THEY HAVE NOT OVULATED YET. AND WHEN THEY DO AND ARE READY WE WILL BREED EVERY OTHER DAY AS LONG AS THE FEMALE WILL ALLOW THE MALE TO MATE.

NOW, THERE WAS ONE FEMALE WE BRED TO SID 2 YEARS AGO, THAT BLED FOR 2 WEEKS. COME TO FIND OUT, YES SHE WAS IN HEAT, SHE GOT BRED, AND SHE DID HAVE PUPS, BUT SHE HAD A URINARY TRACT INFECTION.

IT'S SO EASY FOR FEMALES TO GET THIS, ESPECIALLY WHEN THEY ARE IN HEAT, BECAUSE WHEN THEY SIT DOWN THEIR VAGINA SITS ON THE GROUND. SO WHEN THEY ARE IN HEAT, EVERYTHING IS ALREADY OPENED UP AWAITING MATING, AND IT'S MUCH EASIER FOR THEM TO GET BACTERIA UP IN THERE TO CAUSE AN INFECTION.

I WOULD JUST GIVE HER A RUN OF ANTIBIOTICS JUST IN CASE IT IS SOME KIND OF SLIGHT INFECTION.

I would keep a very close eye on her, if the blood starts to look differant ( like darker than normall I would take her to the vet. They can get a uteruis infection very easy. We just about lost our house nut becouse I thought she was haveing a prolonged heat .

I WOULD JUST TO BE ON THE SAFE SIDE. BECAUSE EVEN THOUGH IT DOES HAPPEN, IT'S NOT FREQUENT OR NORMAL FOR A FEMALE TO BLEED HER ENTIRE HEAT CYCLE.

I am not a vet but the same thing happened to our yard mut and we had to get her spayd. If I doen't breed a female i like to put them on antibotics half way threw heat cycle. When they start to swell big it lets alot of bacteria in and if you hunt them any they get mucky water and what ever else their in. ( Just something I do)

The dark blood is probably blood clots. A good rule of thumb to see if a female is ready. Hold her collar and tap her backside. If she move her tail over she is ready. She will cycle every 48 hours so breed to that schedule. Always worked for me.
