OK, I just found out that small tax excempt organizations that make less than $25,000.00 a fiscal year have to submit a 990N form. This form is only available on-line, and is due on the 15th 5 months after the organizations end of a fiscal year.

Any organizations failing to file for 3 years will lose their tax except status. Here is a link to the IRS site:

I just picked up the same paperwork from my tax preparer today.
To my understanding, Effective 2007 all non-profit clubs should be filing this.
I haven't even looked at it yet. Let me know what you figure out.

More info

Apparently, the 990N form is much easier than the 990T form. THe 990N form is supposed to be only 10 questions long.

I'll let everyone know what I find out.

You will need an Employee Indentifcation Number to file.

i think this is really stupid. most clubs are self sustained at a break even point. unless they are receiving big sumes of interest income from CD's or savings, a club should not have to go thru the headache. i filed ours, somewhere!!!lol

Anyone who manages the finances for local clubs should be checking out this new requirement.

I done filed ours.We were filing a 990EZ.The club was paying a tax preparer $160.00 a year to do this.I took over as Sec. and Treas. last year and got it done for $90.
This year I filed the 990N on-line.
Took about 5 minutes. The EIN is the same thing as your TIN(tax identification number.)
I don't think it was even 10 questions long.
It is kind of irritating to think of all the trouble we went through before to file taxes for the club and now you enter your name, enter your TIN,do you make less than $25,000 per year?
Yes.
Thankyou for filing your e-postcard.

What,that was it?
