When will we see another female win the Purina Race??

Just wanted to see what everyone thought. I think the last female to win was back in 96. I think that if the Kate red dog ran the whole schedule that she would have a great chance. She seems to be a nice hound. My friend drew her at English Days and said that she could flat tree a coon.

purina race female

Remember this name " Rock's Northern Blue Shadow" yes a blue dog. She is fast on track and can flat tree a coon ahead of behind or away from her compeditors and hold the pressure of any kind!! She is out of GR.Ch.GR.NT.CH.N.BL.Sampson's Diamond Rock, Rock is from my late NT.CH.Northern Blue Sampson, His sire was JetV, her dam is from a female out of NT.CH. NOrthern Blue Sting out of the late CH.GR.NT.CH. Nouthern Blue Levi. She is bred to be just what she is, COON DOG. Just a name to remember!!!! See ya in the '2004 race......... Go Blue!!!!!

The reason more females aren't run in the Purina race is pretty simple, in my opinion...$$$$$$$$.

A male dog that wins has a future as a stud dog. A female that wins can only whelp so many pups.

It is expensive to chase the Purina award, and male dogs offer better return on the investment.

Rock's Northern Blue Shadow

Well I am happy a young blue female is coming on to be a great one.We sure need blue dogs that can win some of the big hunts, and what better bred dog could there be than a Hammer bred hound. Any of that stock that was ever here in Kentucky........ Jet V. had no ambition to tree coon here I would hope whatever was in those dogs have been bred out........I owned several out of that cross of Jet V. and Nortern Blue Chrystal, and I have to say I have never owned any that was any worse......... they were grand pups of Jet V. and Northern Blue Chrystal not from Samson but real close related

I think that the reason why you don't see more females...

Is because it's hard to hunt a female and keep her on top with the points race close like it is if she comes in heat for a month 2x out of the year.

Females that come in season is why I think there aren't more in the races. You don't have to worry about that with the males.

I agree with......

John Carroll. A female that wins the race will only fetch back a small portion of the money spent to campagn her through future puppy sales but a male that wins is worth thousands in future stud fees or possible purchase.

JET V.

Dan, I was not intending to take anthing from Jet V. he no doubt has produced some good nite hunt dogs, and we all know what a dedicated man Mr. Ed Mead is to our breed. So no harm intended to Jet V. or Mr Mead I only know that I want no more of the stock from the cross I spoke of, and I tried several.........

john vaught do you know

a fellow around the elizabethtown area (clarkson) by the name of junior willis? he is a down home country boy that has hunted and raised blues for years. have been there and hunted and he has traveled up here for the (easy coon) or so he thought. he thought all ohio was flat till he came here. i am sure he would be happy to tell you how the blues with this jet v and hammer influence can get through those kentucky hills and under a coon. will give you his number if your interested.

Do not know Willis

I have no idea why the dogs I had from that line were so unable, unwiiling, even a shot of mean, but real moody with it and not able to tree coon here. I very well know how a hammer hound can get in the country here in these hills, and get treed with a coon. I still have no use for that crosss that I talked of, and would really like to see one that would tree a coon here in these hills, and have a mouth that you could hear over the bugs that make noise here at night

Well I must say that I agree with Dan on this one John. I have a male dog that goes back to jet 4 on top and is out of a bitch straight outta jet 5 and he will get it done. He is tight mouthed on track, but he move it real fast and a hard tree dog. he'll stay all night long. he feels no pressure. all the pups out of that litter were the same way

purina race female

Lum, thanks for your support .. There is another top female out there that is good enough to run the race, if the funds were available for this dog, her name is Gr.Nt.Ch. Brannon's almost Blue Jillie, she is owned by Jonh Brannon from Ohio. This dog was the World Ch. High Scoring Bluetick Female of the UKC World Hunt "2002". Her Sire: Gr.Nt.Ch.Jims True Blue Ace, Her Dam: Gr.Nt.Ch.Searl's Amost Blue Little Bit, also placed 20th. in the world hunt 4yrs. ago. Alas!!! this was a half brother / sister cross on ole Nt.Ch. Northern Blue Sampson { jetv x crystal } cross. It seems to me these dogs could tree a coon, [ Ah! John] If people are disbelivers in the Jetv x Crystal off spring and there off spring please call the following men:: John Brannon, Gr.Nt.Ch jillie 740-9277677, Jim Cartner, Gr.Nt.Ch.Jims True Ace 740-432-5604, Gr.Nt.Ch. Searls Blue Little Bit, Homer Searls, Paul Currie, Gr.Nt.Ch. Solid Northern Blue Coon Man, also the winner of Autumn Open scorning 1500+ 519-767-2763, Warren Sturtz, GR.Nt.Ch.Gr.Ch.N.Bl.Sampsons Diamond Rock 740-545-6169, Mike Lorenzo, Nt.Ch Blue Female 740-820-8738, Paul Poole Nt.Ch.
