why are we treated 3rd rate

What i dont understand is why is it that every major outdoor store will not have anything for coon hunting, its really begins to piss me off, we are just as important as everyone else.

I've wondered that also.

I've called a few stores, big chain stores asking if they carried coon lights and they either hsd no idea what I was talking about or were really off on what they thought was a light. One store showed me a million candle power spot light. nice, but would only last about 1/2 hr. other than that they usually don't have a clue what I'm looking for.

I have a Gander Mountain 2 miles from the house they put in about 2 years ago.

I was in there the other day in the trapping section was surprised to see some Western Rivers Lights.

None of the small or large scale hunting stores around here carry anything for coon hunting let alone hardly anything for hunting dogs.

Thats only because both of those are intended for bird dogs. I know the Trashbreaker is intended for coon dogs, but the rest of Tri-Tronics is for bird dogs.

There are plenty of us. But how many of us have the disposable income of a bird hunter? When was the last time any of us spent $1200 for an 8wk old pup? The typical bird hunter makes more than most of us coon hunters.

it would be nice if the local sportshop carried everything for our coonhunting needs, but lets get real, the market is not very big AT all compared to deer hunting ..... why would a store carry coon hunting supplies that they are just going to sit on.

first off, There are two lines of bull **** on here. THere are more then of enough of to sustain a market. and I run to bird dogs that would blow anyones mind. its not always the money compared to time with the dogs. Im very new to this world but i learned very fast , it is so much harder to train coon dogs. im going to open a kennel for brid dogs and this has been a very humbling experince training tree dogs. There is no reason that cabelas or bass pro cannot carry coon hunting equipment. I will bet nuts to marbles there are more houndsman then people who spend 4oo dollars for a dang old tent for camping.

In my opinion and that by no means is an expert opinion but we have almost run our course in coon hunting. There ten times as many coon hunters in the decades before this one. Hunting spots are vanishing fast, not enough youth getting involved and it almost seems like it is becoming a rich man sports today. With all the fancy gadgets we have to have to tree a coon. I am guilty of keeping up with the Jones myself. As for 1200 dollar puppies the coon hunting world has seen plenty of even more expensive pups than that price. But I bet in fifty years we will not be free casting hounds anymore. It is kind of sad but it is probably the cold hard truth. There is simply not enough money in coon hunting supplies for large corporate companies to get involved with coon hunting supplies. Besides why would you want large chains who do not have a clue about coon hunting selling you products? I like the dealers we have now a days they mostly coon hunt and can help you out anyway you need to be helped.

sad

Lack of convenience is the most frustrating thing for me.I would love to be able to see firsthand what I want to buy.I spend more coonhunting than turkey hunting but remember beagle hunters would use alot of the same things coonhunters do so there is quite a few people but hound hunting is not politically correct in many peoples eyes so this hurts. We participate in the most attacked form of hunting.

ITs very true and it is a sad day when then can determine a free market. Its a sad thing when we spend so much more time in the woods then the weekend warrior deer hunter. I just want a fair shake. I what i cant figure out, is those trappers are under a ton of fire too, but its alot eayser to find traps then a tracking collar.

Why are coonhunters considered "third rate"? Just read the comments on threads posted regarding hound medical questions, and all the political threads....It'll all suddenly become very clear.

even if they had the stuff we want we still wouldn't be happy. i bought a bark collar at gander mountian and the battery went dead so i goes to gander to get a new battery yesterday you think they had one, noooo so i say to the guy could you sell me one out of one of the new collars, noooo so i say do ya know where i can get one noooo we are alot better of buying our stuff out of a catalog like we do. they specialize in what we are buying and appriciate our money .and give us service after the sale. and when they spend our money its more likely to go into the workin mans economy. just my thought

Why would you give Cabela's and such your money instead of supporting the coonhunters that sell our supplies ?

That's a better question in my book ...

In Ashland, Ohio.... Fin Feather and Fur Outfitters has ABOUT all you need. In my opinion they carry more than Gander Mountain in Sheffield. As a matter of fact we bought Dave's new Nite Lite there. But your right, as a general rule, it is hard to find anything for coonhunters. Vendors at the events are normally very helpful, although ussualy more expensive. (for obvious reasons). Online is a great way to shop, but then you have to wait for delivery. For all these reasons, is exactly why, I'm researching the in's and out's of opening my own store, hopefully here in Wakeman for ALL hunters needs. I can retire in 14 years and will need something to keep me busy, but not have to be under someone else's authority.

I may only be 15 but i asked my buisness teacher about this a couple months ago and she said that when there arnt many people who are looking for a item they wont stock any because all it does is takes up room and they never get rid of them. Also when stores buy inventory they like to buy it in high quantities so it costs less. Thats why prices are so high and stores do not stock them.
