Bluetick Reunion "Your Thoughts"

Keep in mind when you answer, the location needs good hotels, strong club or clubs close by to handle the hunters and a nice location to hold the hunt at (fairgrounds)

Where would you like to see the hunt go in the future?? Now the agreement is for this hunt to rotate around the USA in good weather, that is for hunter and dog.......meaning early spring like we are doing in GA (the month of Feb) or late Fall like we did in MO (Nov).

We will be in GA for 2004, and the BBOA membership voted to see about having the hunt in the Upper Mid-West in Oct and the location and club that made a bid for the event was in Northern Illinois.

What I'd like to know is as per the above instructions.......where would you the Bluetick hunters like to see this hunt go to in the future and what time frame???

Well If you move that one up there as well, I guess we'll just have to start SBBOA! That stands for SOUTHERN BLUETICK BREEDERS OF AMERICA. You don't have to have all the big hunts in the north do ya? How many people saw a snake last February? I have been here all my life, and have NEVER seen a snake in February! You have the one hunt in OHIO,,,,,then the other hunt in LaGrange, INDIANA,,,,,,Now ILLINOIS?????? Like I said.........We should just split up if ALL the BIG HUNTS have to be up North,,,,,,,,Because they don't, HAVE TO BE! JMO LOL

I've got to say

that BBOA only has (1) major event a year David and that is the Nationals........that is the only event WE make the money that it takes to run this organization, so it goes where the VP whats to host it and where we will get the biggest draw for us to make money.

Now, we split the reunion with BBCHA, and you will see if you look in your Bluebook that we don't make a whole lot of money on that event, but it is an event for the 2 memberships to enjoy.

I don't know what hunt in Ohio you are talking about, as we do not have a hunt in Ohio, We do now have one in NC.....the Southern Fall Classic, that will be co-hosted with Southern English Assn, and also the Great Western Shoot-Out in Okla that will be co-hosted with Western English Assn.

The agreement for the reunion David, calls for the hunt to rotate from the East, West, South, North.....it was out West (MO) for 2 years and has moved South (GA) for this year and next year. The simple question asked was where did the membership think or would like for it to go next, and since only one club has asked to put it on I was looking for other possible locations.

Now, considering your Zone (5) has a Zone event, a State Championship, 3 State (NC) sectionals, a VA state hunt, a KY State hunt and I hear they are working on a TN event that should give you plenty of events to attend.

I know when I was a Director for Zone 5 many years ago, we had a State Championship in KY, TN, VA, NC and the Zone 5 Championship and I made every event as an Officer, and many other members made them too.

Now, constructive criticism is always welcomed as there are also members from other states and not just NC LOL

Traye

I've heard that Hope was a nice location, but why has no one ever returned there?? Is there a good strong club there to support an event of this size, and are their any clubs close by to help out with getting hunters into the woods?? I'd like to see a hunt go out that way, just wonder if they would be interested in hosting an event of this size????

What kind of terrain and how is the coon population in that area?

Mark, you have never been to hope? Man, Hope is one of the best locations I have ever been to have a hunt! It is AWESOME! If Traye says you can get the fairgrounds for little of nothing then you better jump on it! That is really worth checking into!

Now, Mark I do apologize. I didn't realize the Spring Hunt was a BBCHA Hunt. It was in OHIO! I believe Ashland????? Anyways, I wasn't on a rampage, putting anyone down, I just made a comment. Why would you take the hunt out WEST if your looking for MONEY?? And I'm not saying that the SOUTH was a barn burner. But if your worried so much about attendance,,,find a place in the center of the country and stay there. The poll shows that most of the UKC hunters, most of the computer using coonhunters anyways, are from the SOUTH. I mean if you add the 2 southern "conferences" from that poll, and then add Virginia, Kentucky, and the part of W Va. thats "southern" you'd have 60% of the entire pollsters. Maybe they just don't like to hunt against our "BADASS" BLUE DOGS!!!! Down here in the SOUTH , I mean! heheheheheheheh

Mark, I'm not dogging you out or trying to put anyone down, I know you have your hands full, trying to organize hunts. Thanks for the job your doing! GO TEAM BLUE. Keep on keeping on. good day!........carry on highwayward soldier.......................TCB

Hey TCB

our National might (never say never) not ever see the West unless the numbers out there jump way up, but the Reunion by agreement with BBOA/BBCHA says the hunt will Rotate to different regions during its coarse. The main reason for that is so folks down South can enjoy the event with minumim travel, just as it would be out West, or up North or out East say in PA, NY or MD. We had folks from NJ, SD, IL, IN, NY, even Maine had a showing at this years Reunion in GA and thats a long drive. It was agreed upon so ever couple of years someone would get the opportunity to have it close to them, but many thanks to those who travel from the far away places to support the hunts, because there are many that will never support the hunt unless its in their back yard....and hey that's ok, I just don't want to hear them bitching when they don't come and support the hunts when its in other locations. Now, thats just my opinion, but as one who has been working hunts from the club level to the National level......you will never make everyone happy !!!! The thing to remember is at some point in time all of us will have to travel to a major event "IF WE WANT TO ATTEND IT AND TAKE PART IN IT" !!!

Hey Texhog........is there a coon club in Hope and is it a strong club with close clubs to help out??? I've never been to Hope to hunt, but remember reading about some of the nice events that were held there many...many years ago. How do they (Hope) stand now as a club???

I am not sure about a local club, but I do know there are more hunters than ever in that area! Could be a great place for the reunion, I will see what I can find out. Traye Hearn would know the situation I bet. I do know the Round-Up has not been quite as big since it left hope!

I gotcha Mark

I would love to be able to travel to all the major events to campaign a hound but,,,,,,,I have MY own business, and have decided that it is more important to make the BREED hunts instead of the MAJORS. At least to me. See I can't do like alot of people and just up and take off to a hunt in BFE and return 5 days later. Whats sad is I have never been to the NORTH, as far as not being in an airport. The furtherest north I've been is Pittburgh, for an overniter before continueing to DEUTCHLAND. But I hope to make one this season. I just have to bite the bullet and go. Take care of business before and after. But anyways,,,,I get your point. And again, I appreciate the job all of the ORGANIZERS are doing.......TCB

Mark

Hunting is good, alot of coon for not having corn, there are clubs all around, one in Prescott that holds the PKC Bluetick breed hunt every year its about 15 miles away Texarkana and Eldorado clubs are about 25 miles away and the Queen City, Foreman, and Horatio clubs are less then an hour away. I think BBCHA held ther spring meeting there last year. The town of Hope does not have any clubs its the surrounding clubs that do the work its just a good center location. IF you want some details about all of the facilitys and some people to contact let me know.

Thanks

I'll take that info

but without a coon club right there here is the problem we will run into and trust me, this is the biggest problem of all things when trying to get a new hunt location.

THE DATES....without a club, who has established dates for the organizations, and the club to work with UKC in arranging and swapping dates to get that 100 mile radius around the event. The club part is even more inportant when it comes to getting guides lined up, show benches for the show, a point of contact for the fairgrounds, campers, dog pens, and venders...it sure helps when you have folks at ground level there on site.

But, I look at it this way, when a group be it small/large want an event in their area they can work wonders, and work hard to ensure it is a quality event that all will enjoy. Hosting an event is truely a labor of love.......and nothing short of that compares.

Now, that being said anyone think there might be an interest out there feel free to let me know.

Big Timber Blue, in 2001-2002 the Reunion was held smack dab in the middle of MO at the State Faigrounds in Sedalia, MO and the first year (NOV 2001) we had about 70+ dogs each night, and in (NOV 2002) we had about 50+ dogs each night...but it was kinda cold them 2 nights but no colder than when I go pleasure hunting but the number did fall off. I was alittle amazed at some of the major Bluetick folks who did not make this event that were not far from this location, but I also know you can't make all of them and things do come up !!!!!!!!

I HAVE A GREAT IDEA!WHY DONT WE HAVE THAT HUNT DURING THE SUMMER?THE FALL IS A BAD TIME,STATE HUNTS,WORLD HUNTS,BBCHA FALL ROUND UP,BATTLE OF THE BREEDS.IT IS JUST TO HARD FINANCIALY AND PHYSICALY FOR SOME TO MAKE SOME HUNTS THAT TIME OF YEAR.DURING THE SUMMER IT SEEMS TO BE KIND OF A DEAD TIME OF YEAR FOR BIG HUNTS.

You nailed it right on the head Faithful Blue DEAD...as in "DEAD Dogs". That is what we had every year that it was held in the Summer, we lost dogs to the heat in those summer months and I cannot think of a more horrorable way for a coonhound to die, plus its just no fun hunting in the summer with the heat, bugs, and other critters out. The agreement signed by both Presidents several years ago was to move the hunt into cooler months so both man and dog could enjoy this event. I know we have not broken any records in numbers but we have not lost any either since we made the move, so the change has not made any difference but most due like the cooler months and seem to enjoy the cooler weather for hunting.........and those hunters and show folks are the ones that pay the bills.

Does it Matter?(Beatin the deadhorse again!)

Why don't we just put it in the middle of the United States, or at the closest point that can facilitate this type of event, and let it ride. I hunt Georgia coons all dang year! A change of scenery is nice now and again. Take last years entrants, see who came the longest distance from each direction, and put it in the middle. Set it up for the same location and date each year and let it be. If you want to go, well you know ahead of time and know exactly where its gonna be, so do something that makes sense and PLAN TO BE THERE!!!!!! This isn't rocket science nor is it the complaint office. If you got something worth hunting quit crying and get it there, if not don't waste your money and stay home! If I think there is a snowballs chance for my dog you can bet your sweet a$$ I am going to be there no matter how far, hot, close, or cold. If you don't like it stay home, Your just one less somebodys gotta beat.

Look at a map.Southern Illinois would be in the middle of the coon hunting world.Does anyone live in that area that knows the club situation, and weather a big hunt could be put on there?

Nebraska

i think it could and should be in nebraska we have alot of coon hunting clubs around us and we have alot of corn so we have alot of coon. we have the creighton coonhunters club we have the herman coon hunters club those arent to far apart then we have some from the other states like the moville iowa coon hunters club and canton southdakota coonhunters club and all them clubs aint to far apart so i would say if u want to have it in the middle have it in nebraska. it is good country and has good coon population.

How many people were at the reunion when it was in Mo.? We have lots of clubs within an hour drive and very good hunting in the fall and early spring. Say nov. or march or april. October isn't bad either. There are plenty of places to stay in a reasonable distance to Sedalia or have it in Columbia which is on I-70 with tons of hotels, camping and even state parks. Our club is small but with the help of our neihbors it would work. We have a big fair grounds and lots of highway access to get to where you are going. Our club isn't in Columbia but it would be a place to hold the hunt. The fair grounds is just north of columbia on hwy 63 so that would basicly be at the major hwy intersection in the middle of Mo. Just a thought. Things seemed to go good in Sedalia and we are in good relations with the surrounding clubs. There are like five clubs within an hour of Columbia.

Faithful Blue

this has been a very cool summer for us, and yes it does get hot and humid here, Not like NC,SC, or GA but enough when we were in Northern IN we lost dog's to the heat........that and the agreement signed by the Presidents years ago was to give all members of both organizations the opportunity to have the event close to them.

Now, Southern Illinois is a good location, but I don't know anyone in that area willing to host the event........do the leg work, but Sesser has a great location and nice grounds........Oct would be nice wether, and the leaves would be falling off so it might be "Truth Or Dare" time !!

March or April in Southern Illinois would be better but then you run into the major hunts getting cranked up and again finding a date to work with.

To answer your question Chris...we had about 70+ dogs the first year in MO and then only 50+ the 2nd year we were there. Good numbers but not great numbers.......but again you cannot make people come if they don't want to......

Rod & I talked about it the other night and like Rod said, no matter where, when you hold it if they don't want to come or choose to go to a different event at another time, then you just will not see them.

What I was hoping to get was folks from coon clubs that might want to host this event in the coming years out East (PA, MD, NY) and out West (TX, Okla, AR, MO) to go along with the club in Northern Illinois who has made an offer to host it for 2005-2006.

One thing, lots of Bluetick folks all over the USA so just fishing for more interested clubs who might want to take the challenge and host this event.
