North Carolina Coon ...

Seeking input on the coon population in central to eastern North Carolina ?? The better half's family lives down in Virginia Beach and we been "Thinking" about moving to North Carolina sometime in the near future, when she confronted me about it ofcourse my first response was .... " As long as there is Raccoon down that way" ... I got the GLARE!!LOL I know it would be a tough transition for me coming from Ohio ... coon are thick here ...

But any of ya'll from that area or surrounding area's that could give me some feedback, it would be greatly appreciated. We have been looking specifically in the Rocky Mount Area?

Thanks all , Tom

Hi there, I live in NC, about 30 minutes east of Raleigh. I am in a club located in Wilson, NC that is in the 252 area code (Eastern NC).

The population of racoons is a bit thicker in the central portion of our state, but both areas have decent populations for the South. I've seen casts come in to our club with 600 to 800 points on good nights but can also remember a hunt with 24 dogs that had no plus point cast winners...most of the time 300 to 400 is about the typical score for first place which is about 2 coons in 2 hours.

The biggest issue with or state is:
1. Lack of hunting areas, development and growth are replacing the woods. The woods that are left are often cut-over which translates to thick, thick, woods that can require a machete to get through...I have had to crawl to my dogs before.
2. Deciding whether to be a NC State, unc, or duke fan....NC State is my choice...
