Hi Jimmie

I know you are not trying to start something. Let's see, out of about 20.

Titan was average.
Teflon had potential to be good, but she died.
Kate is good, except for her voice.
Ellie May seemed to be pretty good, but a little too aggressive on the tree for me.
Angus might be better than average with some work.
Amos is turning out okay.

As far a summarizing I will have to do it later. I have to go to Wed. night church.

Figured out

Well, as far as the things I've figured out. There are a lot of little things, but the main things would be:

Raising a whole litter and green starting them to end up with the best dog out of a litter. I really believe this is the only way to improve what I have. I did it with Angus' litter and I ended up with Angus. I wouldn't have otherwise. The next best thing is to place the pups with people I can work with if they end up with the best one.

Coondogs are born, not trained. Yes, I can mess them up, but they either have it or they don't. I just need to give them the opportunity.

Most breeds are not consistent enough in producing a good percentage of pups that make it out of a litter.

Raising no more than 1 litter at a time and keeping my numbers in the kennel 10 or less, including puppies.

Making true friends is more important to me than having good dogs.

Hunting with other hunters' dogs to check my current standards.

You can't pick the best pup out of a litter at 8 weeks or even 8 months.

Letting pups run loose several months helps mature a pup.

Letting pups run loose too much can cause problems.

Young dogs need consistency and repetition to improve.

I'll never know enough, but I can keep trying and learning.

There is a lot more, but I think I'll leave the rest for my articles.
