Question about the effects of pregnancy

A buddy of mine has a littermate sister to our walker dog. We brought her back from Georgia for him when we got our puppy. She has an awesome pedigree and our dog is doing great. This guy has about 6 dogs, doesn't hunt much, and hasn't even tried to do anything with her. We've tried to buy her from him a couple of times, but he wouldn't sell her.

She's 1 1/2 years old now, and is just weaning her 2nd litter of puppies. She had her first litter before she was a year old. I don't think he's making any attempt to keep her from getting pregnant when she comes into heat. He even left her AND her first litter of puppies in the pen with two other male dogs. It's probably the same this time around. He bought a three year old male off of Kong at the Grand American and seems to be happy with him. We're thinking he might get rid of her now. My question is this - Do you think it would be worth it to try and get her and turn her into something? Do you think that having two litters of pups so young has ruined her? Just wanted to see what y'all thought about it. I hate that she's sitting in a pen somewhere pumping out unwanted puppies. That's a breeder's nightmare.

ERIN...

OUR OLD MALE WE HAD NAMED HANK WAS NEVER COON HUNTED UNTIL WE GOT HIM. HE WAS 4 YEARS OLD WHEN WE GOT HIM, HE'D BEEN "CULLED" AS A BEAR DOG BECAUSE HE KEPT COMING OF BEAR TO TREE COONS. SO WE HUNTED HIM FOR A WHILE, HE FINISHED TO NTCH WITH TWO 1ST AND A 2ND, WITH ONE OF HIS FIRST BEING 1ST PLACE REGISTERED 2003 GEORGIA STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS.

HE WON 2 WALKER SECTIONALS AND QUALIFIED FOR THE WORLD HUNT.

THE MALE OUT OF SID AND STORMEY WE'RE HUNTING NOW WILL BE 2 IN APRIL. UNTIL WE GOT HIM HE'D ONLY BEEN OUT ABOUT 4 TIMES.

WE'VE HAD HIM FOR ABOUT A MONTH, AND WEEK BEFORE LAST HE WAS ON HIS 10TH TRIP TO THE WOODS, AND HE STRUCK AHEAD OF SID AND TREED AHEAD OF SID AND HAD HIS COON.

IF A DOG'S GOT IT NATURAL IT DOESNT MATTER HOW OLD THEY ARE WHEN YOU EXPOSE THEM TO IT, THEY WILL DO WHAT COMES NATURALLY TO THEM.

She's not to old to work with. To young to be bred like that. If you do get her and she doesn't work out, I'm sure you can place her in a better environment than were she is now.

Ditto....Having pups should not have affected her ability to become the best cooner she can be. If anything, it may have calmed her down a bit and took some puppy out of her. Good luck with her and I hope you get a chance to make something other than a puppy machine out of her. Let us know how it goes! :-)

get the dog and give it to a good home where it won't be a puppy factory. things like this is the reason the walker breed screwed up now!

If I am not mistaken Tar Rattler was 2-4 years old when Jimmy(WILDMAN) Meeks got him and started hunting him. He had been in a kennel and never turned loose and after 2 weeks Jimmy was training pups with him. OH, and look what Tar Rattler done for the Walker bred!!

yeah but look at all the worthless ones. You breed coondog to coondog not coondog to worthless brood bitch. how many dogs have you seen abandoned or shot in the head because they couldn't cut it? not to mention all the people that get screwed into buying these dogs.

Thanks everyone. I wasn't really concerned about her age... just curious if the 2 litters of puppies she had so young would have some negative effect. I sure hope not. He probably still won't get rid of her...
