Hunt Numbers Down

LETS FACE IT there is to many hunts. There is no since of ergency. Why drive 60 miles, there is one 15 miles away next week.

LESS HUNTs, LESS WINNERS= HIGHER PERFORMANCE MONEY POINT VALUE, more to win.

LESS NITE AND GRANDNITECH , MAKING THEM WORTH MORE!!!

What do you think??????????????

The fact of the matter is people want cheap wins. If there is 5 10 hunts on the weekend that they will all average 3 registered casts and 2 nite champion casts.

I am seeing knew clubs all the time and I ask myself why? Chepa wins and watered down titles.

If someone puts there dog in several casts and it aint a nite champion at these local hunts something is wrong.

I AM THE MOST PRO-UKC PERSON YOU WILL EVER MEET!!!! I LOVE UKC. I HAVE PREACHED UKC IS THE BEST FOR EVER, but lately the same 6 or 8 people that hunt PKC, have been out numbering most UKC hunts around here. THATS CRAZY!!!!!

TIME FOR UKC TO SET UP, and make changes to help the clubs that have made them what they are.

CUT HUNT OF HUNTS, not add HTX another excuse for not going to the hunts.

There are too many clubs out there period... within 20 miles of each other... I'd rather hunt my club attitude so I can guide and judge over my fedder buckets. close some clubs down... back 10 years ago wasn't nothing to see over 100 come out for a hunt and hunt 20 to 30 dogs. now do lucky to get 3 casts... something has got to be done. I think the older clubs that are 20 to 50 yrs old stay but the newer ones close down...

LETS FACE IT, FORCE CLOSEING OF CLUBS WOULD CAUSE TO MANY HARD FEELINGS.

Reducing number of hunts a club can have in the peak season and extending the mile radius from 100 miles to 130mile, would help.

Performance money goes up, more incentive. less nitech and grnitech out there, their value goes up higher. People get more for their effort.

Another thing, I dont think any club from that state should be allowed to have a hunt, when that STATE is having their STATE HUNT!!!!! but maybe that is a different issue.

Please Dont Any Of You Take This The Wrong Way

But it might not be all the clubs that are around now, it might be the ones that attend the hunts. It doesn't take much of people talkin about other people, accusing people of misconduct , and talk of cheating to run people away. The reason I don't believe its the over abundance of club is because I can put on a buddy hunt at my store and hunt 25 dogs, the next night at a UKC hunt you only see 10. Now Why IS That?
When I hold my buddy hunt, I make sure that their isn't any UKC hunt in our area going on and inform hunters if their is one the next night.

One of the biggest complaints I hear is, that cast drew out and hunted feeder buckets and my cast had to hunt wild coons, thats not right. Yea I might can win my cast but how can you beat a feeder bucket score.
Like this or not, Its true.

My complaint is why do clubs want to hold hunts in extreme heat like we have now but have no hunts in the Fall and Winter.
I hear its because people won't come to a comp hunt when its kill season.
What A Crock.

Face it, UKC hunters are 50% lairs, cheaters and thieves and the bad thing is that % is the ones in control.

Just My 2 cents!!!

Closing clubs ain't the answer. I'm someone who was apart of a group who spearheaded a new club a couple years ago. We held one UKC event this year during the same weekend as Walker Days and a big bluetick hunt in Iowa, and to my knowledge our event was the largest UKC event held in the state yet this year.

If they only events I had to choose from were the UKC events at the 5-6 clubs nearest me, I'd just plain quit competition hunting. Not that they're all bad, I hunt most of them anyway, but I like having options of being able to pick and choose which clubs, which events, and which registries I'm going to support each week.

There are good clubs and poor clubs. Good hunts and poor hunts. These days people are picking and choosing which hunts they'll attend not only because of the economy but because of dog power, family conflicts, and some clubs just don't put on quality events, not to mention other registries hunts.

I do think UKC should reduce the number of events allowed per club per year. That might help a little in some areas, but there have been very hunts within 4 hours of me in the last month and I don't think it has made a difference in entries. I don't know of many hunts that have the maximum number of events allowed anyway. I'm sure there are some that do.

More than anything I think it is just plain dog power. If you take a dog that you think is ready and go to a couple hunts and get beat, you're probably not in a big hurry to spend money on going to another one anytime soon. Especially if it was a poor event anyway.

THERE ARE ALOT OF REASONS FOR DECLINE. YOU CAN NOT JUST PICK ONE OUT AND SOLVE THE PROBLEM.

TWO MANY HUNTS, WHO KNOWS. UKC, PKC, HTX, BUDDY HUNTS, YOUTH HUNTS ( ADULTS DO NOT ATTEND EVENTS IN ORDER TO TAKE YOUTH SOMEWHERE ).

YOUTH NOT REALLY INTERESTED IN HUNTING. WOULD RATHER LAY AROUND AND WATCH TV, PLAY VIDEO, ETC.

MONEY AND FUEL PRICES EFFECT IT. JOB LOSS. PRICES OF EVERYTHING GOING UP. A MAN HAS TO USE ALL HIS EXTRA MONEY ON HIS FAMILY NOW.

PRICE TO ENTER SOME EVENTS HAS GONE UP CONSIDERABLY. THE YOUNG KID OR THE FIRST TIMER REALLY THINKS ABOUT IT BEFORE THEY ENTER. BREED HUNTS, 30.00 TO ENTER HUNT, 20.00 TO ENTER SHOW. WOULD YOU ALSO LIKE TO EAT?

HOW MUCH DOSE IT COST TO GET TO A HUNT AND HUNT?

ALOT OF THE OLDER GUYS HAVE QUIT, DUE TO HEALTH REASONS. AND THE YOUNGER GUYS ARE NOT FILLING IN.

I KNOW ALOT OF GUYS WHO HAVE JUST QUIT COMPETITION HUNTING TO PLEASURE HUNT WITH THERE KIDS AND FRIENDS.

ALL I AM SAYING IS THAT THERE ARE ALOT OF REASONS FOR THE DROP OFF. IT IS NOT MIRACULOSLY GOING TO CHANGE OVER NIGHT. I KNOW THERE ARE ALOT OF OTHERS OUT THERE WITH OPINIONS, WE ALL WOULD LIKE TO HERE THEM. MAYBE TOGETHER WE CAN GET A SOLUTION.

I have to disagree with that logic it makes no sense. Lets look at the number of hunters now compared to 20 yrs ago, not even close to as many. Then lets look at the loss of habitat now compared to 20 yrs ago. Then lets take a look at the economy now compared to 20 yrs ago. Face it fellows we have a tenth of the hunters hunting a tenth of the habitat with gas prices the way they are and unemployment at a record high it doesnt take a rocket scientist to figure out people have higher priorities then going and spending 70 to 90 bucks at a hunt. The perfomance point values mean nothing they werent there 20 yrs ago either. You have the same people at the hunts because they are the ones it means something to. I personally would love to drive within 30 mins from my house and be to a hunt instead of an hour every weekend. Those of you who think its so easy to GR a dog out give me your phone number I'll send you all the dogs you can handle. But I honestly have to believe you've not made that many. JMO

Summer hunts draw more dogs..Any which way you want to look at it! They dont hunt a dog that misses much in the winter at a hunt..The summer leaves can cover the misses! If you want the club to make any money..You have to have some summer hunts..

LMAO All yawl are going to do is make more pleasure hunters. The not enough money in it for you attitude is the bigest problem. Most I have talked to that got out of comp. is becouse of ones that just think about money and winning.
HTX adds fun and sport back into it. If you want more to come do more than race up go hunt and gripw. Make it an all day thing you can bring the kids to with coon in hole,in circle, tree contest and coon in barrel. Want more people ad more fun and less B.S.

Oh if you read a lot of the whineing on here one of the top things is, I spent all this gas money and entry money then got cheated. Spreading the clubs out more sure isn't going to help the winers either.

Instead of expecting UKC to fix things , why not try something different yourselves.
Like , using other ways to make money for the club so you can give away a new coat , light , boots , whatever.
Or maybe something for the guides or judges or both.
A club doesn't have to depend ONLY on hunt entries to make ALL the money.
All the club members need to get together and pick a goal and try different things to reach that goal.
There are a ton of different things to do. It doesn't always have to do with coon hounds.
Sometimes you just have to think " outside the box. "

there is alot of hunts right here where i live. between now and the end of august there is a hunt every fri and sat night within 50 miles. i will be at all of them. i guide most of them. i dont hunt all of them. i enjoy going to all of them. i do agree there is to many hunts. i will finish bo out in a few weeks but i would rather do it in competetion and not in a 2 cast hunt. even around here our pkc hunts dont have but 2 or 3 cast

i do like the way you think. there is two clubs i am in one gives a dog box away at the end of the year and the other is giving a way a light to the dog with the most plus points
