that makes a lot of sense if you are reffering to line breeding as the purpose of line breeding is to try and get as close to a genetic match as possible to the dog being line bred but if that dog has a recessive gene that does not show up in the dog but the dog is a carrier, and if enough line bred litters keep coming out increasing the chance of the recessive gene coming out and expressed.

Every male Walker pup I have ever raised had the same condition. I beieve it comes from the high powered puppy feeds and growing too fast. One cod liver gel pill per day from 12 weeks till about 6 months takes care of the problem. Never seen it in a female pup.

Coomer, I bet when that pup is a year old, you will never know it was ever chickenbreasted. Give it the cod liver pill.

A chicken breasted dog has better lungs. Most of the time.It usually shows up better on black & blue dogs. It is just nature. Not from line breeding.

I guess I'm living around too many real live chickens here on my farm... SO I can't visualize what this means on a dog. Could someone explain it a bit better or perhaps post a couple of pix? I have Assumed it meant a chest with the breast bone sticking out the front???? I have vague memories in horse conformation of "chicken breasted" but... brain injury has taken some of my memory away so... I just forget what it actually means... Can someone describe it SIMPLY or show pix?

Thanks and smokin-1-mo, hope your pup does fine and is a CoonDog!

HappyHunting Heather
