U.k.c ? Todd Kellman

I WAS WONDERING IF U.K.C HAS THOUGHT ABOUT POSTING IN BLOODLINES THE LIST OF ALL PREFORMANCE SIRE'S THAT HAVE BRED FEMALES AND PUP'S ON THE WAY EACH MONTH ? I THINK THIS WOULD BE NICE TO BE ABLE TO COMPARE WITH P.K.C LIST OF S.S SIRE'S. THANK'S APPRECIATE YOU TIME TO THIS. WHAT DOES ANYONE ELSE THINK ON THIS. THANK'S DAVE

This has been talked about several times. UKC has no way to tell what has been bred as they don't require you to send a breeding slip in like PKC does.

Maybe they could do it with say a $5 charge, to cover the administration side of doing this, and it could be done on a voluntary basis. I don't know why you wouldn't want everyone to know that your PP Sire was due to have pups on the ground soon. This could be beneficial to both UKC and the owners of Performance Sires.

It "sounds" like a good idea. Its interesting to know who's breeding what females to what males.

In reality, if its anything like PKC's "pups on the way", it serves little or no useful purpose. I've had several females bred to SS stud and listed in Prohound and have yet to get one single phone call as a result. Just because a female got bred and gets her name in the magazine doesn't mean she'll have pups or that any of the pups will be for sale or that they haven't all been spoken for by then.

Best thing to do if you want a pup out of a certain stud or dam is to contact their owner and see what they are breeding and get on a list, early.

Im sure there will be a late fee associated with not sending in some kind of breeding slip if UKC decides to do this.

Please, lets not come up with anything that is going to cost more money.

Howdy John D,

I have to respectfully disagree about the usefullness of the pups on the way list. I have used them extensively. I go back through old issues and call the owners of the females to ask what they thought of their cross after the dogs reach two.

You would be surprised at the up front candor I have received from many breeders. It is a very useful tool to the breeder who can't extensively travel and hunt with a couple hundred dogs.

I have weeded through many studs that I have considered to narrow the field of prospective suitors.

No problem, Larry, I'm sure its going to be viewed differently by folks.

I agree it is a good way to find out who's breeding to what. As a research tool, It does make some names and ph. nos. more readily available than they would be otherwise.

I'm ready to provide information for someone's research, but I've never gotten one of those phone calls,either...

I have my doubts it would help sell a significant number of pups. I'm pretty certain that it wouldn't be worth the extra expense and burden it would cause.

jmho...

The only real use i have found for it, is it gives me a way to contact the folks who have bred to a stud that i might worry is not getting pups anymore. It is not the end all word on it, but it does give me an idea. If 6 females are supposed to have litters on the ground and only one female got pups and she only had a few then i can decide whether to take a chance or not. You can also look back through the Prohound and find the litters that are old enough to be hunting and find out a little more about them. Like ya'll said its a good research tool.

GOOD IDEA DAVE ,THE OWNER OF THE PERFORMANCE SIRE COULD SEND IN A BRED SHEET, JUST LIKE P.K.C. THIS IDEA WOULD WORK GREAT AND SHOULD BE USED FOR PERFORMANCE SIRES ONLY TO KEEP THE PAPPER WORK LOAD WAY DOWN FOR U.K.C.

I think it could be handled very easy using a computer. The sire owners could be given a password and when they breed a female to their dog they come to a section of this web site that is set up to accept information about that breeding. Date, State, etc. That information could then be printed in the magazine or made availabe for one line viewing. I know you will say everyone doesn't have a computer but everyone knows someone that does and what better way to learn.

We've looked into it before. I can bring it up again and see what everyone thinks. Like Bruce suggested, it might be something better suited for the website. We are working on another project right now in regards to Performance Sire Profiles on the website. Might fit with that?
