There a lot of liberals and hippies right in Madison but WI is great sporting dog state and there are a few coon clubs located pretty close to Madison. Hunting terrain is pretty nice if you can stay out of the swamps.
I'm sure there are plenty of folks on this site that can tell you alot more about the area than I can. I've hunted out of the Hebron club once and my brother goes to school at UW.

We're about 140 miles northwest of Madison.

Closest coon hunting club to Madison is Sugar River Coon Hunters Club in Brooklyn, WI

Danielle & Scott Johnson could help you with info for the area & the club .... goes by coondogs704

Dusty & Jessica Tuchalski also live near Madison ..... Jess goes by mrstuttles on here.

Good luck with the potential new job!

I grew up in Madison and I travel in to Madison for work. Your best bet on places to live are in the out lying areas, housing costs are cheaper and you will have more room for your hounds without the bitchy neighbors. We live about 45-50 mins north east of Madison, near Columbus. We hunt mostly county land and we are within 20 minutes of most of our hunting spots. There are A LOT of swamps around here, but some nice hardwoods as well. The closest coon clubs are Brooklyn, Hebron and Milton. Nice clubs, good hunting and nice people.

Pa Hunter,

Brooklyn is not far from Madison, a nice small town to.

Edgerton is another one about 35 minutes away, I had a house there afew years back, good hunting & fishing close by. The Rock River flows by about 5 minutes out of town, there is a dam @ a little bedroom town named "Indian Ford", Ive caught, walley, crappie, norther & muskies there & also alot of public hunting ground.

Brooklyn & Edgerton are both south of Madison,

Going west is Black Earth & Mazomainie, "Mazo" as we call it is close to the Wisconsin River, 2-3- minutes away, all along the river, both sides is public land, and most of the people out that way will let you hunt if you just go out and knock afew doors.

Job wise, PM me your address & I'll cut out the Sunday paper jobs within your classification, I'll post my cell below if you want to call. Good Luck with your venture,

cell: 608-217-6095

Brooklyn is around 20-30mins from Madison depending on traffic and weather. I think property taxes and such are fairly high, but most of Dane County is high. If you are looking for other jobs in the Madison area, a good internet source for jobs is madison.com. There area quite a few resources/links from that site for housing and employment.

jda-
I'm doin' pretty good. Busy as heck with work! I'm very much looking forward to this weekend! Sadie is finally out of heat, so I'm hoping to burn off some of her energy! We've got some donations for the raffle that we'll be bringing and Dusty is sponsoring one of the trophies.
Are you going to go the woods with me?

I've hunted all around Madison and it is all good. If you like the mountains, then go north to the Baraboo Bluffs just north of Merrimac, WI. If you like rolling hills then 30 min. west is Blue Mounds, Barneveld. If you like flat country with thick coon then the Fort Atkinson/Marshall area is good. If you like rolling and flat then the south is good near Stoughton/Oregon.

You can pretty much pick a spot anywhere around this area and you will be in thick coon and great hunting. The closer you get to Milwaukee though the more congested housing will be and traffic. I'd go north around Lake Wisconsin myself. Still a very undiscovered area with great scenery.

Several clubs well within reasonable driving from Madison. I want to know where these "swamps" are in southern wisconsin. I've yet to encounter them. Unless Dave Marsden took you behind his place (north of edgerton).

I walked along with you and your husband at Hebron several weeks ago in a Nt.Ch. cast. Maybe there are some up by you but just south-west of Madison I haven't found any yet. Does it really matter? Theres not like there is a shortage of coon in wisconsin. I take that back! With all the rain that we have gotten in the last week or so I'm sure I can easily find a swamp if I wanted to!

yea, with all this rain just about everywhere seems like a swamp. We hunt mostly north east of Madison and there are definitely some swamps around us. If there's a swamp anywhere in the vicinity my dogs will find it. I swear they love to torture me. I think that night at Hebron, Toby did find some swamp but since the hunt was over we just didn't have to walk into like my husband did!

There are definitely swamps in this area, mostly east and northeast of Madison. When I first started hunting in the Hebron club I'd draw this guy that took us back to his area north of Hebron and we always ended up in a swamp or worse a cranberry bog. Once a dog hits a cranberry bog chasing a coon, the hunt can pretty much be over. I guess you could call it a hazard, call time out, and swim out to get your dogs. LOL
