What is everyone's pick? Not for once a year cutting... heavy use, like cutting enough wood to heat an average home, or even proffesional cutting?

my grandpa owns a large timber business and he has both husky and sthil and most of his workers will fight over the huskys cause their lighter and cut quicker but their is some that use the sthils he has all sizes models of both makes. i know that the husky saws are alot lighter but as far as my own knowledge of which one is better i dont know. they both cut good as far as ive used them. we weighed them and the husky was on average two and a half pounds lighter across the board.

I have used both, I heat my entire house with wood so I do alot of cutting. The Stihl will start every time 2 or 3 pulls year after y ear. I won't buy another husky. Always having to be worked on. 029 Farm Boss

2 man hand saw! Never needs tuned up. Of course I don't use wood heat!

Our family cut and sold over 85 rick of wood last year. We used Stihl forever until my dad bought a husky, Husky is now all we own, due to the fact of weight,price,durability, and they cut quick.JMO

I own a lawncare business and have been through a lot of Stihl chain saws and weedeaters. Switched to Echo weedeaters and Husky chain saws. On average I would have to scrap a Stihl weedeater after one season and the chain saws never did last long. So far I have 4 Echo weedeaters that are 9 years old and run like they did when I bought them. Husky chain saw wore out after 8 years of hevy use. Just bought another and I like it better than the old one. A lot lighter, and man does it have some torque. Echo also makes an excellent chain saw. My Father cuts around 6 to 7 cord of wood a year. He has used the same saw for the last 15 years.

I've had the same Husky for about 8 or 10 years. It has yet to have to go to the shop. I will buy another when the time comes.

I use it to cut wood for the house and fence posts. Just about everything I cut is hedge and it does a good job.

I will say this: The guys that are serious cutters that liked Husky saws went and bought about 10 new saws a couple years ago. Husky has changed there saws and now they are JUNK.

JMHO.

As for personal experience. I have a Stihl 028 from the early 80's that still runs like a champ. I also have a new Stihl 360. It's a great saw. I had one of the Husky 357XP (same size as the 360) and it was a turd. I've run alot of saws and some pretty big ones out west. I really think the Stihl is the best saw. All of the Stihl equipment (weedeater, backpack blower, 2 saws) I have will start on or before the 3rd pull.

Husky- more RPM's, less torque

Stihl- less RPM, more torque

Trust me, the Husky's just can't keep up when you stick the saw into a big piece of red oak.

i have a model 51 that has to be over 15 years old and i just changed the spark plug in it last year because i felt bad i have never done anything to it LOL...LOL..

also have a mod. xp372 it's a pro model that will cut through a 3ft oak log like it was a pice of soft maple !
most of the pro cutters around here use husky's now but i guess it's what ever you want to spend your money on.

Forest i just really dont think you know what you are talkin about. husky aint changed anything but the plastic on their saws the engines is still the same i just pulled a head off of one to check it out the saw is 12 years old and never been took apart except for rings. It looked just as good as it did the day it was bought. I am fixin to have to rebuild five sthils as soon as my papaw gets back with the parts. They was bought last year. We aint even gonna fool with the older ones (sthils) this year we are gonna rebuild these 5 and use them until next spring and then their goin in the garbage. And as far as huskys not standin up when you stick them in a redoak we cut 10 trees that each was aload on a single axle. Cut them all with a 375xp blew up 4 sthils and one other kind of saw. ill stick a husky into anything and itll go through. Maybe you should use better chains if the huskys you use wont cut much.

Like I said, I've run both brands of saws pretty extensively. You couldn't give me a new Husky. They started selling them at Home Depot and cut the price, it's not the same saw. Just like the John Deere lawn tractors. The one's at Lowe's are not the same quality as the ones you could get from a JD dealer several years ago.

the old Husky's are a good saw, the new ones are crap.

Like I said, I have a Stihl 028 that's over 20 years old that's never had a rebuild.

We've raced the Husky 357XP and the Stihl 360. The Stihl killed the Husky. Also, the saws are very similar in discplacement and we can run a 4" longer bar on the Stihl.

The Stihl has only been here a couple months, maybe it will be junk by next year, but I really don't think so.



I guess this is just another Chevy, Ford, Dodge debate.

We get all of our saws from baileys and the price aint changed in 5 years. the 372 xp is $580 the 385 is $709 and the 390 is $ 800
And we use windsor speed tip bars anywhere from 32 to 42 inches on all of our saws.

I have a stihl 036. I have liked this saw a lot.

I had a husky before and it had to rebuilt the first month I had it on warranty, then the next two years it had to be rebuilt out of my pocket, should of quit after the first job.

I know loggers and tree people, they all switched to huskies about 7 years ago, now they all have gone back to the stihls.

Just my experience, anyone can use what they want to.

I have owned and used both Husky's and Johnsred. I prefer my Johnsred. Cost a little more but are worth a lot more when I sell them 4-5 years later. We heat with wood and had a 200 acre farm here in mo.

Both are good saws. My son has the Husky 55 rancher and he cuts ceder for college money and firewood. If it can handle him they are bullet proof!

I think they are all good saws and allot of it is just what you like.

have had a sachs-dolmar for over 20ys... do not use saw much today, it has been a a great tool, also have a stihl and pioneer, lot depends on what one has to do, sure it is different using one to make a living compared to occasional use... have used husky, jonserend, echo etc. all good saws... stihl far and away most used commerically in this area...

we have a logging copmany, so....our saws get used a lot. we use Stihl 066's. i;ve heard the farm boss model stihl makes is good also.

I just spent about 2 hours with a Stihl 250. You couldn't give me one of those either. I didn't like it at all, no power, not even for the little bar that was on it.

Folks, I cut timber every day for a LIVING. I cut over 10,000 board feet today in fact. Ive tried em all at one time or another and all I own and use now is Husqvarnas. Stihl makes a good saw, but, like has already been posted, they are on average 2 pounds or better heavier in engine size class and still wont cut as fast as a Husky. For the guy who was comparing a 357 husky to a 066 stihl, thats not an apples to apples comparision. Compare that 066 to the new 575 husky if you want to be fair about it.
