Walmart/ Playing Sportsman

I do not know if this is nation wide or just here in Michigan, but I was floored this morning when I ran to WALMART and ALL THE GUNS WERE GONE! I asked what was going on and the sporting goods manager told me they got rid of them a short time ago because of liabilty and outside pressure!!?? I had a WHOLE cart full of food and some fishing stuff before I noticed the lack of guns. I told him if Walmart will not support my RIGHT to bear arms THEY DO NOT NEED MY MONEY. I left the cart there. I will do everything I can to make sure the GOOD LAW ABIDEING FOLKS I KNOW BUY NOTHING FROM WALMART. KMART should have been a lesson to them when they had Rosie and her anti gun stance repersenting them. they lost a ton of sportsman. I HATE FENCE SITTERS. They will sell us ammo and TAKE OUR MONEY, just not a gun. Maybe bows next then SHARP FISHING HOOKS. ANYBODY THAT THINKS WE AS SPORTSMAN ARE NOT IN SERIOUS TROUBLE IS COMPLETELY LOST. mike

maybe if the guns were all made in China, they would sell them

yet another reason to stay away from that place.

CHINA, YOU ARE CORRECT SIR! The one here sold tons of guns and ammo. I live out aways and have gun stores close to me. Opening day of deer, turkey and small game season there was allways a good crowd at the walmart buying. I quit KMART when they pulled their "HANDGUN AMMO" and had ROSIE, I'll now quit WALMART. mike

HP, I can remember when Kmart had a big selection. Well I guess it will help the small dealers, But it removes us just a little futher from main stream.

My life choices are more important to me than any one company or organazition. If they want to back a certain horse, thats fine with me, you just will not get my dollar. That includes religion, politics, stores, people, UKC, Clubs, etc. mike

I know sometimes it is easier to buy something where you are at, but if you can it is always better to support the folks who support us. Bass Pro is a great store. mike

Like I said, GUN OWNERS ALSO BUY, DIAPERS, FOOD, CLOTHES< SHOES, PET SUPPLIES, STEREOS, TVs, AND ALL KINDS OF STUFF THAT WALMART SELLS. I know its cheaper to buy stuff there, but I will pay more and just get by with a little less than to give money to folks who cave to the antis. They are the worst kind of opurtunist, take from ALL sides as long as they get paid. Maybe I seem like I'm overreacting but you have to take astand. I have not spoke to FAMILY members for years, because of their views on hunting, trapping, farming, eatting meat, POACHING, "THEY THINK ITS NO BIG DEAL", etc." I will not let people trivialize and spit on our life styles for money or any other reason. WHEN GOOD MEN DO NOTHING, EVIL PREVAILS.

I could care less if Walmart sells guns or not.I've always bought my guns from my local gunshop.I don't mind paying an extra $10 dollars when the moneys going to someone who will fight for our 2nd amendment rights instead of a big company like Walmart.

from what i was told when i couldn't find the trash bags at walmart,,was that the space's on the floor are leased out to the different venders,,and if they dont keep their stuff stocked to walmarts approval then they move the vender to a low profile space away from the main isle like they did the trash bags..

the venders dont get paid till walmart gets the money at the cash register is what i heard...

anyone remember rinks bargan city???thats the way they were..
when they closed the doors ,the trucking company i worked for hauled the shoes for the shoe vender to the goldblats stores around the chicago area and it was the same there,,rented space on the floor...if the stuff dont sell quick,it gets a low profile space..

Lonnie P, my reaction to walmart, has nothing to do with how much they sell them for. It has to do with a major world wide company decideing guns are A legal liabilty, and some groups THAT ARE WELL ORGANIZED, unlike ALL THE SPLINTERED GROUPS of SPORTSMAN, would rather them not sell DANGEROUS guns. Who do you think has more polictial punch? Walmart or Bob's Guns and Ammo. Thats my point on Walmart, when a MAINSTREAM company turns its back on us, it is has a bad effect all the way down. How about the kid, city or rural that has never been exposed to hunting or fishing? He goes with his mom to Walmart, sees a bunch of guys their wives AND their kids standing around talking about their kids first bass, deer , or maybe even a COON. Seeing the proud look and the attention the other kid is getting could only peak his interest.
ITS THE WHOLE PICTURE, NOT JUST PRICE OR ANYONE THING. LONNIE, I'm not saying your view is wrong, just PLEASE look deeper into it. thanks, mike

Bill, a few items are vendor stocked, like bread and some dry goods, but most are bought and sold by Walmart. Again, I KNOW the amount of GUNS and AMMO they SELL at MY store. I have Three friends that own gun shops, I know the markup on walmarts guns. They have a ton of items thru out their store that are non or very small profit margin items, BUT they are still carried and sold for the convience of the customer. We have been deemed expendable.

Bill, I wish I knew the anwsers to get ALL sportsman, ranchers, farmers, gamebird folks, trappers, anmial research and anmial use folks, etc on the same page. We have the numbers to write our own ticket. We are just so splintered. I just hate the fact we always seem to be counter punching in this fight. If we do not take this fight to save OUR values and lifestyles a whole lot of other people will decide what is right for us. A whole lot of stuff in life that we all do is based to a large extent on VOTES and MONEY. I guess the worst thing is we spend so much time and money infighting. You all have a great day! Got to go feed calves. mike

the way things are going ,if the people dont wake up ,,
the goverment will be deciding for us what we need..

example:::
our sons and daughter are old enough/mature enough to enlist/be drafted in the military at 18 yrs old
and be wise enough to know when to pull the trigger on a gun and to take a life in time of war
but are not old/mature enough to buy/drink a beer if they so chose..

whats that tell you

Our WallMart did the same thing.
Their Manager, said we were not in a hunting area.
Yea Right, we are in the middle of the Moore Plantation Wildlife Management area, The Sabine National Forrest, Close to the Angelina National Forrest, and wrapped up with hunting clubs of all diferent price ranges.
For Coonhunting, if we need any equipment, we have to mail order it.
We dont shop at Wallmart anymore anyway, because we had a friend, who was refused a job, because her husband, was a Union employee.
Pooie on them, I say.

Any "AMERICAN" that supports wal-mart is like a beef cow supporting the local butcher shop. They're cutting their own throat! wal-mart is one of the largest detriments to this country that there has ever been. For all of the money that they drain from a community in the way of tax breaks, incentive deals that towns give them to get them to locate in their area, and all of the other ways they deal under the carpet, they contribute little back into the local economy, all the while driving all of the smaller mom and pop shops out of business. I have no use for wal-mart for all of these reasons and many more. They very seldom use local labor to build their stores, and most of the ones they do use need an interpreter to order their luch from Mcdonalds (another business I have no use for). When you add the issues that are being discussed here about the sportsman's issues, that just adds more fuel to my fire! I am an avid sportsman along with my father, my son and daughter, and a vast majority of my friends and other family members. I am very glad to see that more people are joining in non-support of china-mart! Keep up the good work and help spread the news. Thanks for posting this post and keep up the good work!!!

I guess I will play devil's advocate here. I agree that we have to protect Sportsmen's rights. But, show me somewhere else for me to shop. Can't drive 30 miles to another store. My family pinches every penny(we have to). Show me where I can by diapers, medicine and groceries cheaper. I am sorry, I can't spend more money to "prove a point".

As for draining a community. I am sure alot of what is said is true.
(I spent 2+ years as a Store Manager with Wal-Mart). But, in my time there, I saw more retiring cashiers and workers retire with more than enough money to survive. I saw 20+ year employees use their profit sharing to buy cars and homes, and pay for kids and grandkids college. I know of a few that had over 7 figures in their retirement funds. There have been numerous factories shut down here. To alot of folks, jobs at Wal-Mart and Home Depot are all there are here. They may not use local labor to build the stores but it is local labor that is working there.

Mike,I understand what your saying. The reason I quit buying guns from Walmart is the way they escort you to the door like your some kind of criminal and because of them pulling all the ammo off the shelves on 9/11.
Walmart isn't my favorite place to shop,But like Ken said,I can't afford to pay double for groceries at Food Lion.

I hear what you're saying about there are no stores close by, and I'm sorry it is like that. Ever wonder why it is like that???? I for sure know what you mean about pinching pennies, but I do my best to spend my money where I make it. Not saying that I haven't shopped at wal-mart, but I do my best to do business with the locals. As for their retirements and jobs, glad to hear it. Maybe there is one or two good things to come from them. But I do totally disagree with what they stand for, and it sure ain't for trying to keep manufacturing or any other type of jobs here in the U.S. At the rate they (and I mean a lot of other companies other than wal-mart) are exporting jobs, where will our kids go for work??? There is a lot bigger picture than just us!!!

Ken,Lonnie and Chad, I do understand your deal as far as where you can buy. I have only myself and wife at home, I would NEVER suggest ANYBODYS family do with out. I'm able to be more millitant in my behavior than most. Ken, about the retierment thing, that is good, but it becomes a trade off. The good of a few, for the downfall of a bunch. I do not know what the awnser is, but I will always try not to be part of the problem. Alot of stuff like this came about very slowly. The restritions on our life styles, the huge change in populations leaving the rural areas, the loss of the middle class, etc. Thats why I get mad about the lack of action and the completely perdictiable reaction we take.
