If you get a good one, they hunt hard, are accurate and will not pull for anything. The problem is that its sometimes hard for people to cull the bad ones b/c everything out of him trees. I believe he crosses best on dogs that have a lot of hunt and drive. If you breed too much sacket jr stuff to him, they are lazy and tree too much. I've heard that you can cross him on a hard going female that would rather run than tree and get better pups, than breed to a good treeing female.

Well Mr. Vaught, then I would assume that all dogs out of Ratt are just a bunch of idiots because those two dogs out of him are the best representation of all pups out of him....!!

Do you know of any dog that produces pups that would suit anyone??? I DONT and believe me they dont all slick tree.Whoever you hunted with was probably the problem.Should be illegal for some people to try and train a hound.

I absolutely believe that Rat

is without a doubt the greatest reproducers of tree dogs in my lifetime and I am 51 years old. Slick treeing is usually a training issue and not a breeding issue. At least that has been my experience. I have bred and raised the same stock of dogs for 26 years and I have owned some knock down tree dogs and non of them were slick treeing idiots. They would however tree a possum once or twic a year. I usually switched them with a small, small switch and wouldn't have that problem for another year.

I am going to breed my female to a son of Rat the minute she comes in because I've seen enough
the past three years to know this is the way to go.

Many people believe Lipper was the greatest stud ever, but I saw some duds out of him as well.
Rat is throwing sons that are dominate reproducers. Lipper only produced a small handful that reproduced. The blood got watered down. Rats blood is something out of a sci-fi magazine.

Those rat dogs must be for people that like nice hounds and there are a lot of people hunting them so they are suiting someone not everyone likes a dog that takes allnight to get the job done. Most people want to tree two or three coons and get home to the family and have to work the next day they dont want to listen to old blue ball around all night. GET ER DONE RAT DOGS. RAT ATTACK #1 ALL TIME PRODUCER

Rat Attack was raised not to far from me and I have an old friend that hunts with the gentlman that raised him. The LAST time my friend went hunting with him he made seventeen trees in two dumps and did not get under one coon. With that being said I have not hunted with a lot of dogs out of him but know alot of people love what he is reproducing. Can't argue with numbers.

YOU MY FRIEND COULD BE MAKNG A FORTUNE AT TRAINING DOGS BECAUSE THERE ARE NO ONE IN THIS COON HUNTING WORLD CAN TRAIN THE WAY YOU DO............THE HOUNDS I TOLD ABOUT ARE NOT THE ONLY ONES I HUNTED WITH THAT HAD THIS PROBLEM....I AGREE THEY ARE TREE DOGS, AND I DIDN'T SAY THERE WERE SLICK TREEING IDIOTS BUT WHAT I SEEN FROM THEM SURE INDICATES THEY HAD SOME PROBLEMS TREEING A COON. YOU JUST MIGHT HAVE SOME OF THE BETTER ONES OF THIS BLOOD AND JUST MAYBE THE FEMALE THEY ARE FROM PUT THE REAL DEAL IN THEM

I've been hunting with one dog directly out of Rat and 3 dogs that were grandpups of Rat through the stylish eagle dog. Not much tracking ability at all. 3 of the dogs just slick treed all over the woods. Real bad. The other one would just mop a track all night long. 2 of those 4 were meaner than a den of rattlesnakes. And NO, I DO NOT believe it's due to training. I believe those dogs were just born mean and stupid. Just my opinion.

i have a 4 year old male that is directly out of rat attack X stylish trixie . and he is a COON DOG . he is a dual grand champion, and my pup trainer also . he might not be the fastest dog in the woods , but he is around 95% accurate and ill put him in the woods and let anyone see what rat throughs . if anyone would like to go to the woods then give us a yell and we will load up the dogs and go ....

I believe it is a training issue myself. Some people sure can ruin a nice pup/young dog.If you hunted with some older dogs and they were still slick treeing again it falls back on the owner/handlers responsibility of taking care of this problem one way or another. Lack of knowledge or pure stupidity on training/hunting would be the first thing I see with this problem. Some dogs will be naturally straight and pretty accurate some just need some fine tuning and training and there are a few that will never make anything so do your part and then see what happens. Most people jump on the the dog and his bloodline when I would say 80-90 percent of the time its the training or lack of.

I hunted one for about 3 months and he was the most accurate hound I have ever hunted with and he was 10 months old when I started hunting him. He was natural or trained right by the person who owned him before I got him.

I don't claim to be a fantastic trainer. I do claim to be an Honest man and all I've done is told the truth about it. However, I will say this, when I got my female she was afraid of people, afraid to be around the tailgate of a truck, ran fox reguarly, and treed more possoms than coons. Now she loves people, loves to load up, does not run fox, and hardly ever trees a possom. Not the best dog in the world but better than many titled dogs I been with. MUCH BETTER.
